Could you imagine being able to upgrade your G73 to a Mobility 6970? xD

I say 6970 cause the 6870 is really a 5770, a change of category from what I read.

I know this has probably been discussed before, just curious to hear people opinion on it. I am excited at the thought of being able to upgrade the video card on this laptop.
Read somewhere that the new 6000m should have a 256 memory interface, would be awesome.
What are the odds of being able to just simply hot swap the video card on a G73? How much you think a upgrade like that would cost?

I know at this point it's all really speculation, but how awesome would it be if we were giving the opportunity to be able to extend the life of this amazing laptop with a significantly improved video card. Only thing I wish it had was Physx.

By the way this forum is AWESOME! I fixed a few problems I had and even fixed a few problems I would of eventually had to face. Doing the video card BIOS update help a lot plus I got an extra 100mhz OC on it xD

Nil...and if the notebook had MXM or the same connector as what Asus uses in the G73, probably about $600.

It would be a cool upgrade, but it's not going to happen. Clevo and MSI are just about the only recognized high end companies that produce notebooks with a standardized format connector, unfortunately. :(

Also, welcome to NBR. Good to see you like it here. :)

I dont know how youve been taught your grammar, but here this is considered a question... and its been answered so many times i dont care to count and its not just speculation - i can say with certainty it will never happen.

Yes it would be very cool and very awesome. If it was available I'd expect price to be around $350-400, as the 6970 will not be a dual GPU card. It will likely be a cut down version of either the HD6850 or 6870, I'm thinking 6850 with 256 bit GDDR5.

The chance of Asus using the same MXM slot as G73jh is slim and the chance that the heatsink will fit the mobile 6970 is slim. It's not that they couldn't do it, because even though it's 40nm, the new architecture is actually smaller and more efficient than the current.

So yes, if Asus radically changes their ways, produces a card that is compatible with G73jh, I think all G73jh owners worldwide would poop their pants from joy.
