So I crashed my system trying to update the bluetooth driver. It's a G73JW-A1. Not sure how, but it started deleting files, and it wiped out pretty much everything. As stuff was disappearing, I pulled the plug (it was only on AC at the time). I've since recovered all of the important data that I had onto another computer thanks to some ntfs recovery software.

In an attempt to get my system back to running order, I rebooted it and used f9 to invoke the recovery partition. It shut down at the end, and I haven't gone through anything on it yet to even get into windows.

Since I'll be doing the reinstall/rebuild over the weekend, I have a chance to ask the group here for some advice on how to reinstall.

Should I keep the F9 based recovery and just uninstall the bloatware that comes with?

Should I do a fresh install of Win7 (I downloaded the ISO from the thread here just in case.)

Should I burn the recovery disks as per another thread here, and just be choosy about what I install?

What do you all think? On the downside I've got to redo my system again. On the upside I get to redo my system again :)

    thanks
    -Jeff

Congrats, looks like you got a nasty little bug. Hope it didn't embed itself in your recovery partition.

I would wipe clean and do a fresh install, but you can try F9 recovery if you like. bohica!

I get that I need to do a fresh inastall. What I'm wondering is if I should use the restore discs or the downloaded win7 image. Any opinion on which way is better?

    Thanks

Well, since it seems you've caught a virus, the downloaded version may be better.
