Since Asus only provides up to Alchemy 1.25 for G73 users (and the Creative Installer for Alchemy 1.41 doesn't detect our EAX cards), I've created a working Alchemy 1.41 folder that you can copy in place of your 1.25 install. This is especially useful for getting EAX to work in games like Thief 3 (Deadly Shadows) since Thief 3 is only compatible with Alchemy 1.41.
Here's the procedure that I used to get it working:
-Make sure Alchemy 1.25 from Asus is installed.
-Install Thief 3. You should patch it to 1.1 as well.
-Download the follwing files that are Audigy Alchemy 1.41 compatible files:
HOTfile link is down - looks like they down like modded files?
Updated with working link, thanks BumbleBoner...

-Best practice is to rename your current folder of Alchemy (located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Creative\ALchemy) to something like "ALchemyold".
-Create a new folder called "ALchemy" and extract the files from the link above into it.
-Run ALchemy from the link in your Start menu.
-Configure "Thief: Deadly Shadows", the only exception being that in Win7 x64 bit, make sure that in Use Registry Path, it says exactly this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ion Storm\Thief - Deadly Shadows\ION_ROOT
-Other default options should work fine - be sure to add the Thief: Deadly Shadows entry to the right side under "ALchemy enabled games"
-At this point, you can also install other Thief 3 mods, such as the Texture pack, FOV fix, Minimalist mod, and Widescreen fix (to fix crashing).
-Run T3.exe (may need to check "XP SP2 compatibility" and "Run as Administrator"
-You can now select the "Audio Hardware Acceleration" "EAX 4.0" and the 3rd option "EAX Extra Environments" or something like that. It now souds great!
Use this method also if you'd like to use ALchemy 1.41 for all your other games. Be sure to re-add them through ALchemy.
Please post with any success stories or questions. I have this running great on my G73 (Asus default installation of Win7 x64, and of course I'm using the Creative EAX drivers. Luckily I have never gotten a GSOD on this baby!)
My specs for those interested:
G73 RBBX (Best buy version - bought refurbished and upgraded screen with the 1080p replacement screen that I bought online. I'm on stock GPU clocks, and have no GSODs even when running the Windows Ratings tool, 3DMark Vantage, Furmark, etc. Using ATI Catalyst 10.5 currently but have also used 10.7 without any issues)

Great job!

Good work mate...

Thanks guys - anyone try this yet? I'd like to see if any steps were left out...

Great Job Mate! Bookmarked for my G73!

OP, your hotfile link is no longer hosting the files. Is there something we can google to get the files we need?
Perhaps we can bug Gary and ask him if Asus/Creative will continue to support Alchemy and EAX on the G73. -
Question 1:
Where did you buy your screen online, I also would like to do this.
Question 2:
If we don't have theif 3, and I did a fresh OS install is it possible to get the creative working. I've tried everything and only have realtek working.
Thanks! -
I downloaded a copy of the OP's file before the HotFile link died.
Since the latest Realtek 2.52 audio drivers are the unofficially 'fixes' the Creative lock up issue, (along with enabling CMSS-3D), I tentatively offer a Mediafire mirror of the files.
ALchemy_1.41_G73.zip -
mediafire is down upload to MU/HF/RS or something!
-
Hey guys, in the "fresh install of Windows 7" threads I've seen it always says not to install Creative drivers because they can cause a ton of issues....is that true?
-
With the latest Realtek drivers, R2.52 onwards, using the Creative stuff is no longer an issue.
-
You guys don't have links to 1.21 and R2.52 do you? I just downloaded what I thought was correct from Asus site and it says I don't have supported hardware....I hate that site, it sux
-
nvm, pulled it off another thread.....man......this sounds WAY better
-
can i just uninstall all the creative and realtek drivers and use drive sweeper and install the new ones?
-
The first post already detailed the install instructions for ALchemy 1.41.
No installation required. Just rename the old folder, and drag in the new one. -

Hi all, I know the topic is a bit old but my Asus ROG notebook is fresh so i'd like to ask this:
I see EAX HD 5.0 sticker on my notebook WHEREAS my notebook has Realtek ALC268 HD Audio chipset on it. What's up with that?
Second, is Creative Alchemy the one which handles all the stuff related to EAX? I don't have any special Creative Audio manager installed on my machine by default?
Can some confirm these two questions?
Much appreciated, thanks! -

It still doesn't answer whether Creative Alchemy is the only software that handles all the EAX stuff on non-Creative-having notebooks such as on Asus notebook which has Realtek chips. I don't have MB2's software on my Asus notebok, only audio-related softwares are Creative Alchemy and Create THX Studio along with Realtek HD Audio Manager on my Asus notebook. All of them was installed on factory. Is this software set a correct combination? BTW my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.
-
The MB softwares include ALchemy. ALchemy does the EAX support for games, by intercepting the hardware calls and rendering them via software.
