Good news everyone!
So far the third most annoying G73 issue (besides GSOD and keyboard lag) was the Creative Audio Center issue. For people who didn't hear about this, the short version: If you enabled the subwoofer boost and launched a not compatyble program the same time, your G73 locked up and had to shut it down with the power button.
Known incompatible programs:
-STEAM client
-Ventrilo
-Windows Ease Acces Center
-Skype
But finally the issues seems to be fixed with the new Realtek Audio driver! I installed the new driver, Creative Audio Center Recognized it without any problem and I launched all programs above with enabled Subwoofer boost and no more lock up!
So no need from now on to uninstall the Creative Audio Center, so you can use EAX 4.0 and boost the subwoofer (on default settings it's kinda weak).
INSTALLATION
1) Launch Vista_Win7_R252.exe, the first time it will uninstall the previous driver, when it asks for a restart, do it.
2) After restart, start Vista_Win7_R252.exe again, this time it will install the new driver. Restart again.
Easy, huh? You don't need to reinstall Creative Audio Center. I had issues with previously released drivers, mainly the Audio Center didn't recognized the Soundcard after installing the driver, but with this, new driver, there is no problem, Audio Center recognizes everything without a problem and no more lock up.

You could also follow the instructions in this thread to update your Creative ALchemy on the G73.
Edited to add mediafire mirror since OP link is dead. http://www.mediafire.com/?zwnwmbiifiodfm0 -
Can someone upload the Creative from the original driver disc, since the one from Asus site just wont install (incompatibility error no matter which realtek driver is installed) and i missplaced my drivers DVD...
-
It's on Chastity's signature though you have to travel a bit to find it.
Here it is http://pcaudio.org/stuff/DRIVER_CD_WIN7_10_AsusG73JH.rar -

oh, almost forgot about it
I inserted a dl link for the default CAC in the op!
-
Thanks DRevan! I just didnt want to download the whole DVD and this saved me the trouble
.

Had anyone installed Creative X-Fi MB? I'm dying to get Cristalyzer in my g73...
-
Just installed opened steam and can confirm that no more lockup, where it usually would. Great find. Looks like the g73 is pretty much perfect now with all these fixes!
-
Just curious. What does EAX Advanced HD 4.0 actually mean and do? What are the benefits of creative now working apposed to using realtek drivers? Little bit confused by all of it. Obviously the bass boost is great, but will sound in game be better now?
-
I dont notice any difference in game and the EAX settings just ruin the sound... Bass boost does help a bit though if youre using the laptops speakers, but sadly i rarely do so.
Still waiting for the new synaptics driver to get rid of the annoying keyboard missing keystrokes issue... That what i really need... -
Hi,
I installed the new Realtek driver + default Creative driver (the one on OP's link) and it didn't show any lockup symptoms (steam, skype, and EAC freezing). Very nice!
Unfortunately, however, there's an issue with bass boost... When I go into Creative Audigy Center and click on 'Enable Bass Boost', error message appears immediately and the whole application shuts off. Anyone having similar problems? -
No such issues here, bass boost works properly.
Perhaps try uninstalling both creative and realtek, do a driver sweep for realtek in safe mode and reisntall R2.52 and creative. -
i'va never updated the audio drivers from the stock ones, do you have to install the new ATi hdmi audio device too after uninstalling old drivers?
-
-
-
For someone who uninstalled all the creative software would I update drivers then install creative again or update drivers then install creative.
-
-
Yes, the new drivers fix the Steam/etc lockup issues with Creative/Bass Boost. Thanks for the info !
However, Bioshock still requires 'Sound->Playback->Realtek Digital Output' to be disabled for it to work for me. -
Fixed everything for me <3
Thanks for this fix <3 -
This really isn't a "fix" It's a driver update.
They do that sometimes.

Lets not split hair now, he took the time to post a sticky and upload the needed files for our convinience. I think we should have more stickies like this
.
Btw. do you think it would be possible to sticky my Problems and Solutions thread from my sig? It might help some users out too to find all the information in one place... -
I uninstalled the realtek, and then reinstalled the 2.52. I think installed the creative software in the OP link. The progress bar went to the end and said it couldn't detect anything compatible.
What can I try? -
Solution, in my experience, is to use ASUS drivers or 3rd-party-modded drivers which enable Creative support. -
Hmmm, Alrighty. Not sure why the heck it's workin' for everyone else.
-
errr... I'm getting this wierd sense of deja vu here...

Thank you so much, I can finally use my yahoo messenger 10 while having my bass boosted.

Just going through and updating all the drivers and apps
EDIT: NM, just downloaded the iso and noticed its simply the g73 Asus Driver & Util disc... Somehow I got the impression this was an Audio Driver (Creative Labs Disc). -
Same here ran driver sweeper twice reinstalled the realtek driver then the asus original creative app and no luck with the bast boost as soon as i activate the feature it crashes instantly.
-
Far as I've done all my re-installs of Creative + Realtek, I've never had to use Driver Sweeper.
Just the standard auto-uninstall, reboot, re-run setup for Realtek, and *insert uninstaller program name here* for the Creative stuff.
Never had a crash with Audio Center with those methods. Just fyi. -
hey guys! just want to say thanks, everything seems to be working great after the driver update
lol i was freaking when it started crashing on me, $1600 computer that was 12 hours old ... i was happy to find out it was just the creative audigy crap.
on a side note....did all the G73JH machines come with a driver's disk? if they took the effort to include the drivers and utilities DVD why not include the OS on DVD? *_* -

hi
well i tried to install the new audio driver 5.2.5 and then audio center 1.0 (which i uninstalled a while ago). but after the uninstallation of the realtek driver i still had sound (even after using driver sweep), which make me think i could have more than one driver for audio ? and so i uninstalled realtek high definition audio and the ATI one. then i rebooted ,at that time i didn't have any sound but the soundcard was detected and then it "auto-installed" and the sound was back.... and creative audio center can't reckon my audio driver it seems, it says that my audio material isnt compatible...
seriously i just can't make my subwoofer to work :s :s
is there different soundcards in the g73 serie ? mine is (or are ?) intel 5 series 34x0 chipset PCH + ati juniper/broadway/granville.
couls someone give me a hint? :s
ps: sorry for the bad english guys :s -

When I click Bass Boost button it crashes the app. I also dont have a CMSS-3D option that has been mentioned.
I completely uninstalled both Realtek and Creative software, including running Clean Sweep and CCleaner's registry cleaner. I installed the Realtek software and then the Creative software from my ASUS driver disk. Bass Boost still locked up afterwards. I also updated to Realtek 2.52 drivers with no luck.
I uninstalled Creative hoping someone can figure this out.... -
After installing creative and relteck drivers from the disk, just dl latest drivers, double click on exe, and let it uninstall it, restart, then double click on exe again to install it. -
I did have a problem with the Creative drivers after Installing a fresh Windows install, the new Realtek drivers, then the Creative 1.0 drivers. It did crash when checking the Bass Boost box just like a lot here are stating. Also many Creative options were missing. Reinstalling the Creative drivers again fixed everything.
-
I had a similar problem when I was trying to use the z10 version of the Creative software. I finally got rid of it by uninstalling the Creative Software - Then to Install the latest Realtek Drivers - Then install the version 1.0 Creative software found on the ASUS G73 Driver Disc - I believe there are a number of threads that the driver disc link is posted.
I was never able to get the Creative software to install/correctly with the z10 version found on other threads, including the ASUS FTP. Just my own experience.
Hope it helps,
In Peace and Agape,
Trav... -
I am using the Creative software from the ASUS driver disk which came with my G73 (one of the lucky ones I guess). I've also tried versions from the links too.
Yes, it crashes immediately after clicking Bass Boost.Attached Files:

It makes no sense but it did work for me the 2nd time. Its creative stuff. Their drivers are wacky on my X-Fi as well. -
Thanks for all the possible solutions... but I've tried installing it every which way. There is some other variable at play here.
