I need some help too, but mine is a minor one, the creative control pad is working but I lost the THX feature (it says the audio device is not supported)

the rest are working through (not too sure of the subwoofer is working because when i turn up the volume to max, the whole laptop vibrates a little)

ok, I have just checked and the subwoofer is now a speaker....anyone knows how to fix this other than doing a fresh install?? I want to get at least the subwoofer back to work

I've been fiddling with these for the better part of two weeks. I really don't know why it won't work. My comp even thinks my sound card is a X-Fi, it just won't open the control panel saying i have an unrecognized audio device. but when I select the X-Fi in the menu it still does nothing. I've done lots of stuff, would windows 7 home cause it maybe? I'm beyond stumped and want the crystallizer effects.

Step 1. Remove your current Realtek drivers until your with the default windows 7 drivers from microsoft then restart.
Step 2. Install the X-Fi MB Stuff from Sound Blaster X-Fi MB folder Then Restart
Step 3. Go to http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx Download and install the Realtek Audio Driver located under Audio once done downloading install it then once again restart but this time in safe mode.
Step 4. Now install the Realtek HD 2.48 drivers it will ask to uninstall the new ones let it due so next restart in safe mode again.
Step 5. Install the Realtek HD 2.48 make sure your in safe mode for this it will ask you to restart again this time you can go back to normal windows.
Step 6. Once again run the Realtek HD 2.48 driver setup it should install once that's done DON'T RESTART YET go into your Licenses Generator Virus Alert Folder make sure those 5 files are their if not your anti virus probably deleted them on you tun off you anti virus software open 7-zip of winrar whatever works for you recopy those files in their now restart in safe mode.
Step 7. Now once in safe mode run the run.bat file next restart
Step 8. Now enjoy your better sound after I did this I noticed a huge improvement. Enjoy!

Uhm... doesn't the G73JW come with a license for the X-Fi MB2 software? So why even bother with older software with less functionality?

After tested MB2 in my laptop, I can say the great MB2 functionality is reduced to a one single, alone and misery slider. MB1 has EQ, Bass setting, etc to keep us busy playing with different settings as gamers we are

All Asus gives you for the g73jw is that creative hd audio manager and it cant realty do its buggy and it sucks after i upgraded to this x-fi package i no longer get random popping sounds plus everything just sounds better plus theirs more noticeable bass in the sub below the lappy :D

This procedure worked for me. The original process might have worked had I restored the files removed by the AV software. In any event, seems somewhat convoluted. Perhaps I will explore a more streamlined procedure and report back.

    DITTO,
hi Chastity, we (Italian community) were looking for this update but it looks like not available for "old" G73Jh models (and users...).
Above all, I asked directly to ASUS and I am still awaiting, if so, a reply...

    @BumbleBoner -

did you start with the 2.48 modded driver, then update to 2.54?
or did u simply uninstall Audigy, then install X-Fi and leave the driver side alone?
    TIA

R2.48 locks up for me, so I don't use it. But your mileage may vary.

Just install as per OP's instructions, if 2.48 works for you, sweet. If it doesn't, install R2.54 over it.

Or you can leave out the Creative software out entirely. Some users feel that Realtek drivers alone are good enough.

    @BumbleBoner-

TY for answering my queries :)
    here's one more:

is the X-Fi installation specifically dependent upon the 2.48 driver?
my situation is this: i dont wanna uninstall BOTH 2.54 driver and Creative
Audigy. I just wanna uninstall Audigy and then install and try out X-Fi with the
2.54 driver i am currently running. From what i have read, i dont wanna
try the 2.48 driver because of the potential STEAM issues.

    Again, THANKS for any suggestions!

OP says it is, with some benefits. There's was comparison done between the two driver versions here.

Also, the first few pages answer most of your questions, regarding the driver versions. Some report any other version other than R2.48 won't work, specifically with the "The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will exit." error.

I've never had that issue with all driver versions.

Lastly, just try out the installations, could always reinstall the default Creative stuff from the driver disc if these modded ones don't work.

Default Creative + latest Realtek drivers are a surefire for most.

There also seems to be a side effect that requires some additional investigation. Since installing X-Fi, Audacity will no longer launch. It causes the computer to freeze requiring an hard boot. Same is true if converting files in iTunes; Freezes and requires a hard boot. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced these symptoms since installing the X-Fi hack.

More news, I removed the Creative software rebooted and once fully up tried to launch Audacity (1.3). Same problem, machine required a hard boot.

Removed the modified Realtek 2.48 driver rebooted and once fully up was able to launch Audacity as well as convert files in iTunes (10.0.1.22).

Just wanted to pass it along. Perhaps someone will come up with a workaround or another mod without the dreaded side effect.

Just got my first crashes on R2.54. Playing .wavs, and importing .wavs into Audacity hard locks the computer.

All other formats seem fine though. I reverted back to R2.52 and everything's dandy.

Of all the drivers, I find R2.52 the most stable and problem free.

can you add this to your futher mods:
as some of you noticed realtek doesn't support 5.1 speaker configuration with rear speakers it only allows it on side speakers!
i do not know if that is to all hd integrated chipsets or just me.but i have found i lot of other people with the same problem (just search "realtek 5.1 issues!")
but that is not the REAL problem actually.the real problem is when someone (like me) has a 4 speakers system and sets realtek to 4 speakers he doesn't hear anything from rear speakers because the configurations of 4 and 5.1 are the same somehow but there are no side speakers in a 4 speakers system !! so there is no rear sound at all in any games.
now my only solution was to choose 7.1 speaker system (because rear speakers suddenly activate in 7.1!) and choose the speaker fill option for side , center and sub. and i don't need to mention there are some sound quality loses because of this .

and i almost forgot to mention Creative Control panel also doesn't support realtek's 5.1 sound configuration so it doesn't come up for me and i can't use any of x-fi features if i use 5.1 option. :(

now can you please fix this and add 5.1 sound system (with rear speakers of corse ) to realtek drivers

I remember seating up my Creative XF-I Extreme Music up for the 1st time. I turned on my pc, loaded the drivers software, and chose gaming profile under the software.

The difference was night and freaking day! I could place my opponents in a FPS anywhere on the map, even if they were creaping. FPS's became eternally easier! I noticed my KD ratio shooting from the 1.3's to 3.5-4.1's.

With that being said, will this MOD give me the same sound placement ability as the card itself? Or will it be better for me to buy an external USB version of the XF-I?

I guess that was my question mohsentux, does the board have the hardware required to give the same effect. Thus far, I've yet to find out myself.

Meh, I think I'll invest 60 bucks to get my XF-I back. I still got my Audio Technia ATH-900's :D

I guess EMU20K1 and EMU20k2 are the chipsets that make the awesome sounds :D I doubt if those are on our mobos? Anyone know?

Following all of the TheMarkness's instructions from above, I was wondering ,

I did all of the instructions above, and was wondering what Graphic Disaplay package you are using? I downloaded the latest Video drivers from ASUS, but I still have issues with Mafia2 crashing unrelentlessly.

    Thanks,

    @Hajji73

don't download video card drivers from asus . you either has a ati gpu or a nvidia gpu and you have to download from their sites . and no more comments on video driver please this topic is about Realtek Modded drivers or anything relevant .

I installed everything as per the OP's instructions, but Creative MB does not show up on my device list like in his photos, but the software seems to be working. Is this how everyone elses is or do I need to try reinstalling again.

UPDATE: Never mind, I got it to say "Creative X-Fi MB", although it was working before. I had to uninstall everything, and run CCleaner and driver sweeper in safe mode a few times as the OP suggested in a later post.

    Thanks

    Hello;

I just bought my G73JH yesterday.

I did a clean Windows 7 install - actually, with my own license. While installing the drivers and following one of the guides posted here, and thankfully I'm having no issues.

Nevertheless, I only installed the new Realtek HD Drivers, v2.55 if I'm not mistaken. It was my understanding the Creative EAX software had some issues.

I got to reading, and found out the G73JH has the Audigy MB software, and learned of the existence of the X-Fi MB y and X-Fi MB2 software, as well as the update for the Audigy MB to make it more Win7 compatible.

Is there a way of getting the X-Fi MB or X-Fi MB2 software working on the machine other than through the modded drivers? Can one download them or buy them from Creative?

The X-Fi MB software that I linked to is a trial package that will work, and you will need to buy a license for it. ($30) MB2 has no trial package out currently.

Or you can install the Audigy MB package, and update it to the Win7 upgrade package.

Tried this, it kept saying that it couldn't find a device. When I tried to do the license thing while it was still up, I could start the Audio Center, but my system then started locking up.

    Quite sad.

I tried reinstalling in all the different ways possible like 5 times, got to a point where I didn't lock up, but the thing did nothing (with the 2.48 drivers installed). At that point, I reinstalled the 2.48 drivers and stuff started working, but then it started locking up again. Remove X-Fi, the lockups stopped.

well, i have the package which is designed for the x-fi external. it works with our machines, and needs no licence, and it updates normally.

so i'm not sure if it would work for everyone.

I recently tried installing Creative X-FI Sound Blaster from this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...ative-x-fi-mb-your-g73-realtek-hd-2-48-a.html . Turned out I didn't like it anymore so I decided to reinstall the latest audio driver but now the Creative THX Trustudio isn't working anymore and keeps on saying 'The current selected audio device is not supported by the application. Do you want to select another audio device now?'.

Before I installed and uninstalled the sound blaster this was working fine but now it's all screwed up and the sound quality isn't very good without it. Any solutions? Im trying everything I can possibly do!

    I need help desperately

How do I reverse installing creative X-Fi MB on my G73JW?

Now when I try to enable the Creative Tru Studio it always comes up with an error message saying that it can't detect any compatible audio software when I could clearly use it before?

Do I need to make a fresh windows install or not? I need to get this problem fixed as audio is trash without it :(

Reinstall drivers. Try installing old ones, then new ones. Delete every single Creative folder on your computer. Delete its registry entries.

How do I delete registry entries? I also have trouble finding old drivers, just how old should I install?
