Hey there guys im thinking about cutting the blue wire to my fan.
I watched a youtube video of someone doing it on there g60 and the idle gpu temps where in the upper 30s low 40c idlei have a g71gx and the warranty is up so its not a problem. But do you think its worth it? my idle temp is 62c so big difference.
Thanks.

Are you sure that there is no dust in your heatsink and that the thermal paste is fine?
62c seems high for an idle temp. -

Increased fan wear and constant noise for slightly lower temps not really worth it.
Try repasting with ICD CPU temps should be idling in the 50's or lower either the past job is not good fans are blocked or do not have clean air flow or your heatsink is not sitting flush enough over the chip.
Clean the heatsink with alcoholic swabs and apply a 3mm blob of ICD and reseat. -
my gpu however is 62c which is high and i want to be lower -
I would still say dont be cutting wires personally you shouldn't need your fans at 100%. -
I'm sure you will be annoyed to hear your fan on 100% when you are just sitting there quietly browsing the web or trying to concentrate writing your paper on Word and all you can hear is loud fans. Sometimes you don't want to listen to music and wear isolating headphones, just peace and quiet. With wire cut, that won't be an option. That's why when I'm not gaming I set my AMD CCC, powerplay to Battery Mode, so it's running at 100/150.
I don't know what GPU you have and what tools are available for it, but I'd instead do what Dallers suggested with ICD instead of Silver 5. And then spend some time looking to how you can undervolt/underclock the GPU when it's at idle. When game I do wear headphones, so fan noise shouldn't be a problem then. But fan noise at idle, that's annoying.
