I've seen[1] an option for "Kingston HyperX DDR3 1866MHz CL11 Dual Channel Memory".
What's the purpose for that? Intel says[2] even the top CPU (Core i7 2960XM) has maximum 1600MHz data rate.

1. Taking your money
2. Bragging rights
3. Insignificantly lower latencies -

The faster RAM does help with gaming in minimizing/eliminating possible microstutters and improves min FPS. Basically help remove memory lagging. The PnP RAM will run at 1866 on Sandybridge units.

Sadly I could never get all 4 sticks to run at 1866.
On another note, Chastity, is Asus ever going to let you come back to the ROG forums? -
The fact that I posted answers your question
