While many folks are playing RAGE on PC and not running into issues, we’re aware that some of you are experiencing issues with screen tearing and texture issues. These problems can be attributed to driver issues, and we’re currently working with Nvidia and AMD to resolve them as quickly as possible.

We know that you want to experience RAGE at its absolute best, so we’ll continue to use this blog post to keep you posted.

    Updates:

Yesterday we posted the latest beta drivers for both card manufacturers on our blog. We’ve learned that AMD is reporting issues with their driver update, and you should not use it.
Note on the Battlefield 3 beta drivers: CTD is 100% with those drivers. You need to update to the most recent driver. Grab it here!
Nvidia users should try updating RAGE to the current beta driver. When this driver is updated, we’ll let everyone know.
Stay tuned for more update… and thank you for your patience!

Yeah, I'm running the latest Rage Performance driver, and while the game is definitely playable (with max AA at 1600x900), I still get frequent crash to desktop events when going through loading screens. The game itself works well, but the random crashes means saving every few minutes to make sure that I don't crash out again.

Other than that annoyance, I have to say the game looks gorgeous and the gameplay is solid. Story is uninteresting as many have complained, but I'm definitely enjoying it so far.

I've got a Asus G73JH-A2 and I've just used the driver that came with the system. out of fear that I may get a blue screen of death, if I tried anything else. So far, every game I've played on the market works just fine but I made the mistake of not following my own rules to live by and not buy a pc game the first week with out reading the reviews first. Oops.

My problem is with this game is I get a crash to desktop two seconds after trying to run it.

does this driver fix that problem or should I just wait tell they sort everything out and fix the game?

I had some crashes after loading up the new Rage Performance driver because I didn't reboot after installation. The error was something related to OpenGL, but after rebooting everything worked perfectly fine.

If you haven't updated your vBIOS, you'll need to do that to suppport the modern ATI drivers, but frankly I see no reason not to run with the latest and greatest software/driver support for the G73. Pretty much every driver released by ATI recently has provided performance improvements and benefits over the older versions. Also, with the updated modded vBIOS that Chastity has in her driver reference, you can use Overdrive in Catalyst Control Center to mildly overclock your video card.

I've personally reformatted/reinstalled my G73JH several times, and frankly I've loaded up the newest drivers/utilities every time and feel like there is a very significant benefit.

I do however work as an IT professional, so reloading my entire system only takes me maybe 3 hours from scratch to completely configured with all of my applications installed. I guess I just like to keep things up to date.

where would I find the Vbios I clicked a link at Chastity page and it gave me a 404 error.

G73/74/53 Series Driver and Application Reference

and all I could find was a fix for GSOD problem that i never had. I am not sure even if that's the right one..

I really don't want to break this notebook just to play a stupid game.

why would asus make a gaming notebook and not unlock the graphic display drivers? I mean i know they all do this trick but whats the point of advertising a gaming notebook that has locked display drivers and worse yet not ever updating them... I had to get that rant out of me.. I feel better now... I am sick with a cold and got nothing better to do.

silly question of the day? has anyone got these drivers to work with out flashing there Vbios? just asking..

The vBIOS controls the graphics chipset much like a BIOS controls the laptop hardware. This isn't just a fix for the GSOD problem you never had, it's basically an updated code to manage the video card.

The display drivers aren't "locked", they can be updated to a point. The latest drivers however require the newer vBIOS. No laptop manufacturer keeps up to date drivers on their website, you 99% of the time have to go to the chip maker to get your updated drivers. The amount of work it would be for the laptop maker to update their website for every model every time a chipset maker releases an update would be ridiculous.

ASUS makes sure that they have a set of drivers that work with the laptop when it's released, and then at that point if you want to update it's up to you.

Frankly, flashing a vBIOS much like flashing a BIOS isn't really a big deal provided you follow directions. Of course there are people who will feed you horror stories about how they bricked their laptop with an update, but if you follow the directions and don't power off your system while updating I've just never seen it happen.

The 11.x driver versions all require the updated vBIOS, so no, if you don't flash your vBIOS they probably won't even let you install them.

The real question is what are you afraid of? The vBIOS update process is simple and well documented. You create a bootable disk (either CD or thumbdrive) and you boot up and run the vBIOS update batch file which will call the flash program and identify the .rom file to flash to the card. I've flashed my video card with 2 different vBIOSes since I've had my laptop, and neither caused me any issue at all.

Once flashed, it's just a matter of rebooting and installing the new driver... Pretty easy all things considered and by no means does the fact that the card is running an old vBIOS indicate that ASUS locked it that way. The vBIOS is just what was available for the card from ATI when the card was manufactured.

The vBIOS I'm running is this one and I confirmed the link is working right now:

    http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/93vBIOS_OD.rar

Follow the process outlined here to create the bootable disk:

    http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?519-G73Jh-GSOD-Vbios-Update

Once you create the bootable thumbdrive or whatever, copy the files from the 93vBIOS_OD.rar archive (extract the files) to the bootable disk.

Once booted, run od2.bat from the command prompt. At that point the flashing is pretty much automated.

    Hopefully this helps.

Sorry about that, I copied the wrong link.... I had downloaded the other VBIOS, but I guess when I copied the link I grabbed the wrong one.

This is the one you want:

"pcaudio.ath.cx" is completely down for me :(

I could offer webspace if the host has problems to hold the current load of downloads.
