So basically, someone stepped on my laptop and damaged the screen in one area ( see this photo), because in a moment of sleepiness, I was stupid enough to leave it on the floor (it was well out of the way though... but enough excuses from me).

I looked into a replacement, and apparently WSXGA+ screens are fairly expensive. Drat... hah. Anyway, the closest I've come to finding a screen in the UK that matches my specs (15.4", 1680 x 1050) is this:

    "ASUS G50VT-X6 15.4" WSXGA+ LAPTOP LCD SCREEN"

As you can see from the item's listing, this screen is advertised for the G50VT-X6, and I have a plain G50V (A1). Though I understand these are very similar laptops in specs, and look very similar.

Keeping that in mind, would this screen be compatible with my G50 (it ticks all the checkboxes as far as I know; right size and right resolution)?

Thanks! I appreciate any input. :)

Generally, yeah, it's the same. You've got to remember that manufacturers want to limit the number of unique parts they order - so they can make bigger, in bulk production. It keeps costs down.

Thanks! I added the pic showing the damage to my original post. The screen I mentioned is nearly £100. Is it a bad idea if I try to save some money by going with some other (cheaper) screens I've found, not advertised as for ASUS, but which fit the specs? Do different manufacturers have different standards, or are LCD screens pretty similar between each other?

Some examples of models that could save me +£30:

    New LENOVO 3000 N100 15.4" WSXGA+ LCD Screen Glossy A+ on eBay (end time 13-Jan-11 09:42:16 GMT)
LENOVO 42T0422 42T0488 LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 15.4" WSXGA+ on eBay (end time 13-Jan-11 09:41:45 GMT)

All within the 15.4" and 1680x1050 parameters.

Bad idea or could I save some money? Thanks again!

They're all really similar actually. Main differences are where the LVDS connection is. But you'll see a bunch of the same screen listed for the same manufacturer. I have a Samsung screen (LTN something something...) in mine that I replaced. I know you won't find them for too much cheaper than $100 USD typically (what's that? Like 60 GBP?). Check the seller's return policy and go for it.
