So i went to order it from Asuslaptop.co.uk and despite it saying they have them in stock, they don't![]()
And I wanted it for the weekend too.
Any other suggestions?
-
Do you mean of where to purchase it in the uk? Not many retailers have it in stock; I myself am importing one from a USA retailer, GenTechPC, sometime in the near future. Either way, it doesn't look like you'll have it for the weekend
-
Should have one by the end of next week now. Still really surprised that there are limited units available in the country
-
Insiders state you won't find any G73 worldwide in the short term because all the available units are in Gay Key's house for vBios testing....
(kidding)
-
Haha, this made me rofl!
-
-
Bad decision...
-
After that, wait for an update for the vbios from asus then we're all good to go. -
-
G73 in the uk is over priced.. I'd recommend Ordering one online.. Ken @ Gentech is highly recommended by other users
-
Yah, I really like it with the exception of the vbios which I fixed.
-
Only thing I wish you could do is change keyboard light colors.
-
The_Stinger is allowed to have an opinion, just like everyone, and if he wants to use other ghey hardware, that's fine too.
-
I have an Asus G71GX, so I also have the right for opinion. You guys pay 100% of the money to get the laptop, so you deserve 100% working laptop from the second you buy it. It's not your job to repaste it or update the vbios.
So I wonder how the OP is even considering buying this proven faulty product ?!? That's why Asus barely gives a damn about the quality of their products - because there will be always people buying their broken stuff. I remember the long threads in the beginning of the year with people being like kids preordering the G73 laptops.
Have some common sense after all - don't buy faulty laptops so the company may some day be forced to test their products before releasing them on the market. Maybe they will understand finally that people want to buy 100% working laptop, not expensive decoration. -
This laptop is just too amazing to pass by even if there are some issues but as long as asus is doing something about it (which they are), then its worth getting. Imo, best laptop ever made IF and thats a big IF the new updates fixes everything which I'm sure it will. -
Explain why is a bad idea ?!? To buy a faulty product ? That is not any good for the purpose you bought it for ? That is faulty 6 months after its release ? And still zero progress on the issue ?
I don't know - just use your common sense.... -
If you could show me a perfect Laptop without a bad word said against it, I'll take a look. -
My G73 can do all the things I need it to do - Email, Web Browse, Document, Blog, Play Games (Joint Operations - Black Hawk Down ) Play all my music (Zune Pass and Zune HD). It does all of this without a single hickup and above and beyond my personal expectations.
Granted there are some issues - the only one that affected me was the "Creative Audio" software impeding on my games. Not necessarily the fault of ASUS as you can't expect them to test every single game and/or scenario to make sure the computer is 100% compatible.
I am a bit curious - Is there any computer sold by a major manufacturer that doesn't have some form of "imperfection"? Wouldn't one consider the "Bloatware" installed by nearly all manufacturers a form of fault and imperfection? You'll be hard pressed to find such a machine - I am sure we could find some fault at some level.
What it all boils down to, in the long run, is what level of imperfection are you willing to accept based upon your desire for a certain product. Some people are die hard "Toshiba, Dell, or HP" users, or even "Toyota, Dodge, or GM" drivers and each one of them puts up with a certain level of imperfection to use and/or drive that which they want.
The G73 offers a lot of top end technology at a competative price -Maybe it is an issue of you get what you pay for, but in my book, I love my G73 "baby" and have no buyer remorse whatsoever. It's a sexy little machine (IMHO) that defys the "standard" notebook look and feel.
It is obvious that you're not a fan and maybe more so obvious I am a bit of a fan, but despite the short comings that seemingly plague the G73; I have and will still recommend the G73. I have a couple of friends who completely hate it, but they are "Toshiba" geeks and can't get beyond that. I tell them it's OK, "my G73 runs circles around their Qosmios" -
In any case, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I just thought I'd voice mine.
To the OP, definitely would recommend and congratulate you on your purchase of a G73...
In Peace and Agape,

Give me a solution to the GSODs on newer drivers and missing key strokes with the touchpad enabled in bios.
- Overclocking/underclocking doesnt fix the GSODs,
- Flashig beta and moded vBios doesnt fix the GSODs,
- Changing GPU 3 times didnt fix the GSODs,
- All combinations of synaptics drivers didnt fix the missing keystrokes...
I could go on and on with what ive tried. Give me a solution than.
I try to stay out of these threads but its just enfuriating to see how you keep recommending these laptops to more and more people and they just become another unsatisfied laptop owner becouse of your pride. Some people just cant admit they made a mistake with a purchase and will keep defending it no matter what you say. I can admit: I made a very bad purchase and i regret ever buying this laptop. Ive been unable to fully enjoy gaming for months. Other laptops may have faults too, but theyre not as bad and numerous as this and usually can be fixed at least with a RMA as a last resort unlike these where even RMA does not help.
Again;
How can you be so damn sure? I do hope it gets fixed cause its a huge pain in the rear if ill have to sell this and get another laptop but i really cant understand how you just blindly trust in something like that especially considering Asus past.
The W90 model (the crossfire 4870 model that was also a huge hit) got an "official fixed" vBios update (you can find it on Asus support site) which never worked for many people like our "Beta vBios" and consequently theyre still stuck at stock drivers like us. Not to mention the missing keystrokes have been around on their laptops for over 4 years!
Im being very paitient waiting for as long as i have but i wont believe Asus has changed until i see an actual working fix released.
The keyboard lights are a start but considering they broke the lights themselves releasing a bad winflash utility and telling people to use it... well lets just say that helped those unfortunate victims of their mistake whod have to wait 2 months if they RMAd it and hope they dont get it back with some other problem which is also something i just cant understand how it can be allowed happen. -
@hellcry - rma man... the new vbios beta works just fine on latest drivers. Something is just wrong with yours. Although, I did hear about one mess up it causes on one game but thats about it. just to be fair, this is what I have heard anyway from a couple people in the forums, i haven't tried it myself yet.
Like I said, not everyone has issues and not everyone is going to take the time to tell us that they have 0 issues, but most people will ask if they have issues (or ask in other forums etc).
I also agree that its strange that they took this long to fix the issue myself though. Only reason I can trust them is cause the updates are helping and chastity is working on the teamShe is awesome.
Keyboard strokes - Ok, this is the one thing I can't help out with since i have never had this issue. I've been typing for months with the latest synaptics (I think) and no issues at all. Hell, I'm typing right now, not seeing anything wrong with it.
Even though the g73 sounds chaotic in the forums, I still say the majority are enjoying theirs. My class mate has the same model I have and she gets no issues with it either once I told her about the creative issue. But as they discontinued it, the majority probably wasn't enough plus its been labeled with having these issues so it can't be helped. -
Ive changed the GPU 3 times, changed the keyboard and tested every bios, vbios, driver and setting combination and i cant get it to work properly. If 3 GPUs and 2 keyboards didnt solve it id say the problem is more widespread than you believe and Asus also wouldnt be working on a new vbios if it wasnt big enough. This new beta vbios also hasnt fixed anything yet. Rma didnt solve anytging thats the worst part. When RMA fails 3 times you should realise something is really wrong. Im actually going for a full refund now if i will be able to get one (gotta have 3 RMAs here to get it but since one was from Usa, i might have to RMA it one more time before i get a refund as our law states). This notebook has cost me far too much time trying to unsuccessfully repair it so i havent able to enjoy it at all. And anyway the customer shouldnt have to fix anything in the first place, you should get a fully working notebook to begin with and Asus just fails to do that or even fix it even 6 months later or with the keyboards 4 years.

Exactly! +1 REP
If most people had common sense and not asking why they shouldn't buy a faulty laptop, Asus would never allow themselves to release half-working products on the market for full price of course. It's not your job to repaste or to wait months and beg to have a normal machine.
And why do people decide to repaste themselves and in many cases avoid RMA like hell ?!? Because they are afraid of the RMA process and are afraid that their laptop will come with more issues instead of having their problem fixed. From there comes the wrong information about the supposedly low rate of RMA's.
That's why nowadays almost everything we buy is a piece of c**p. -
but y the vbios is working for others but not for some (you)? No idea..... I'm beginning to think its something with drivers and vbios. -
.. so wait long
and hell cry, get ur anti-G73 rants out of here... an xellon , i think hell cry's unit is one of those crapped out ones.. u know that can nver be fixed.. he needs to get a new replacement unit which should work.. -
-
Regardless of the issues, it would seem to me that either the Top End MSI or G73 will be my weapon of choice at this point.
The info in this thread so far has been an amazing help.. -
Suit yourself, but youve been warned about the G73JH. Id say if you MUST have the G73JH id wait at least a little bit more to see how exactly the new vBios turns out if/when it comes out to see if it solves anything or not. The MSI is fine now as it is if you cant wait though.
-
Now Im looking at Sager as well. Its all very confusing
-
Depends if you like plain looks of Clevo/Sager like me or the colorful looks of the MSI...
Id still go for the Clevo, but thats just personal preference and expirience from having it talking and i havent yet owned an MSI so i cant tell you how exactly they are.
Look at the configs i posted in your other thread and see if any of them catches your interest. -
My temps when I first got it - Not sure idle but while I watch videos, it never goes pass 59, now it gets up to 65. (room temp was like 80 though). This doesn't sound like an issue but I never played any intense games yet.
If you do buy it, tell the retailers to update your bios to 209 and add the vbios beta. do no update to 211 as the vbios beta has compatibility issues. Use any drivers you want and it should work fine (like I said, thats what I've heard on the forums quite a bit).
I think thats it.... of course, tell them to test your unit (connect to another monitor - psod resistance, ask them to type for a bit I guess for missing keystrokes). -
And looks again are subjective. You might prefer this design but i like the plainest and least flashy one i can get. -
amused yet? I guess not.
edit - O and two 500gb drives with home edition already pre-installed. no matter what, nothing can match the price. -
So its not more powerful, again just with your price. If you prefer wasting money on broken equipment than sure, you get more on paper in the ram department for a bit less if you dont care about raid, esata, firewire and build and cooling quality. Id rather spend a bit more and enjoy a working machine. But hey thats just me. Until now i didnt even know the words "more powerful" actually meant "costs less".
-
I don't get all your ranting HellCry. Rather than suffering through your GPU replacements, and the constant "G73 is awful, it bloody blows" mantra of yours, why not just return the damn thing and buy something that suits your taste and functions?
A Clevo perhaps.
Forgive me if I'm being crude, but I just find the irony hilarious. The irony of you proudly displaying your ownership of the G73 in your sig, and then constantly bashing it in a forum. Or even better yet, typing on the G73 about how it sucks.
I remember the days when you were still ordering your G73 happily waiting for Ken to ship it to you. You're like a different person now. -
You can spend an extra 400 to match the specs of the g73 if you want.
quality? thats ur personal exp, not mine. -
THEN DO IT!!! GO AND SPEND MORE!!! LEAVE US TO BE HAPPY AND STOP CONSTANTLY TELLING US WE ARE STUPID FOR NOT OWNING A CLEVO. I HONESTLY FEEL ALL YOU DO IS MOCK G73 OWNERS AND SAY G73 OWNERS ARE MORONS FOR NOT SPENDING MORE ON A CLEVO!
- MY RETORT, IT'S FAR DUMBER TO BE SO UNHAPPY AND CONSTANTLY TELLING EVERYONE SOMETHING IS BETTER, YET BEING A HYPOCRITE YOURSELF
- HYPOCRISY, EITHER DO IT OR STOP BASHING THE G73Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
You know what, you just dont read what i post and take out what you want to rag on. If you read anything youd understand that im trying to prevent more people from making the same mistake i made as i wish someone would have warned me back then but the problem wasnt so known so i didnt have such luck.
I spent more than i would have on a same configured Clevo, becouse you have to buy the G73JH with the stock i7-720qm cpu, hard drives, wireless... and since i upgraded i had to pay for another whole cpu, ssd and wireless instead of just paying the difference in price as with custom build laptops like the Clevos.
Xellon i already posted the difference is much less than 400$ so youre just prooving how little you know.
I posted many times im trying to get rid of my machine but its not as easy and it takes 3 RMAs and alot of time during which i hoped i wouldnt have to go through it all and a solution would come up.
So ill make you all happy and ill only come here to read up on the updates by Gary and to communicate via PMs with him.
Im returning to the Clevo forums where people actually appreciate my posts.
Oh and Ziddy i just have to say this to you. That V3 vBios you "made" is just a joke. Half a minute in RBE to change the clocks and voltages with no real effect.
Enjoy your laptops. Bye. -
Goodbye. hope you have better luck with your next laptop
-
Now please, for your sanity, please, please buy a Clevo. -
I was the proud owner of a Rock Extreme Ti (Clevo D 900 T) years ago. In the 2 year warranty perriod I had on it I had to RMA it 6 times. It is laying in a cupboard now. Transformed into a very expensive (£2000- $3100) brig !!

I think everyone here needs to chill. HellCry, like everyone else, has the right to rant if he feels the need to. If you don't want to read his rants, skip his posts. No need to drive him off so he only lurks.
You don't see me chewing out those 2 guys promoting the use of the MSI vBIOS, even tho I asked them nicely not to promote it. -
anyway, I guess this thread is gonna close soon xD -
Noooo. Dont Close.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. To be honest, Hellcry gave me the kick up the backside to go and do some real research. I have been looking into all sorts of laptops for all sorts of suppliers.
I still want a G73, but unwittingly Hellcry has pointed me in the direction of US resellers, where I can get mods installed, thermal paste whacked on etc and so on, this time last week I would have been just about to buy a stock Laptop, now for £200 more I looking at getting so much more.
Everyone that has posted in both threads have taken me down avenues I would have otherwise missed. That's got to be a good thing. -
I take it you are not in the USA? I honestly don't know much about retailer locations overseas or anything but yea, I ordered from powernotebooks, really nice people.
They are willing to do anything, set up your bios, vbios, drivers, etc. You are paying a crap load after all. But If they add to your price, I would go else where.
You can ask Gary (retailer and he is working on vbios release at asus) an estimate of when the vbios might officially be released. I believe there was a 30 return period so there is no risk... besides having to wait
Be sure to follow the vbios thread in my sig. -
There is no set date for an official release, since we don't have a stable candidate yet.
I'm told a new one is coming "soon".
Decided To Get the G73
