Has anybody moved from desktop to Asus high end gaming laptop?
Currently have AMD athlon II X635 with GTX470(3 monitors).
Thinking about selling my desktop to get G72 or G73.
I'm in the army and move once or twice every year.
Do you regret going to notebook gaming? or not?
Hate to pack them and set them up everytime I move.
SC2 is only game I play right now.
keep desktop and get used older model G series or sell everything and get highend G72 or G73.

No more desktops for me. This beast plays all my games at either High or Ultra (though there is some lag on SC2 on Ultra in very large battles).
My son is in the AF and he retired his desktop for my hand me down G50VT. More than enough power for the RTS and RPG games we play.
Cheers, -
The 17" screen of the G73 is enough for me. I personally don't like large screens as that means I either have to pan my head or constantly scanning the large screen. With 17" it's big enough for fun, but at the same time, just look straight ahead and see everything that is occuring.
You're desktop rig is definitely better than G73. But that's like saying a Ferrari is better than a Honda Accord when the speed limit is only 65 and there are police everywhere now looking to take down anyone going over 75... meaning Game sales/profits are low enough among high end gaming, developers abandoned it. It's all about numbers, almost no games released exclusively, it has to be cross platform and run on as many machines as possible on high settings.
So if you want mobility, small size factor, then I think you won't miss your desktop.
Desktop gamers make fun of laptop gamers. But any desktop gamer that tries laptop gaming... they never go back
- I convinced a friend who has never owned a laptop gaming machine to buy the G73. He kept his larger monitor he thought for movie watching etc. He told me last week he hasn't used the external monitor once since he loves the 1080p screen on the G73. -
I go back and forth, i use the desktop when i'm home, its' got two monitors, 5.1 speaker system, my main monitor is 23 inch full HD.
The reason i went with the G73JH was because i didn't want to sacrifice performance when i went to work. and now i can go meet up with friends and game without having to lug a desktop around.
i can't stand having a slow computer and the G73 was the best balance of performance and price, and in some cases it's faster than my desktop (I7 vs a C2D, 8GB DDR3 vs 4GB DDR2 etc.)
i am finding however i spend more time on my laptop, esp at night. my desktop is big and loud with all the hard drives and fans going and the G73 is whisper quiet.
i haven't quite given up my desktop but i can easily see why someone would, in your situation i can understand it. I hate having to move my desktop anywhere, it's a huge pain. And with the right notebook you're not giving up performance for convenience. -
I love my G73 because I seem to be on the move lately but I'll admit I miss my desktop...a i7 920 @ 4.4 with 12GB of 2000mHz RAM and 5870's in xFire across 3 screens for 5760X1080 is just....well irreplacable

I find the 17inch g73 is even a little large for SC2. I'm doing consistently better on my 11inch netbook (even at 15fps) because I don't have to move my head/eyes nearly so much to see what is going on.
I guess I'm suggesting you keep your desktop, but get an m11x. Although the g73 is awesome (either way, I'm diamond league, I just feel I play "slower" on the g73). -

I still use my desktop, but I could see it as a desktop replacement, it place every game well including Starcraft, I run it on High settings.
I bought my laptop because I go to my friends house who lives an hour away a few times a week, so I hated having to load my PC up if I wanted to play at his place. Its a lot easier, Unplug laptop, put in bag, put AC in bag, put mouse in bag, put mousepad in bag, done.
But if you are going to get a desktop replacement, go with the G73jh or G73jw. But the G73jh with 5870 mobility is still faster then the g73jw nvidia 460m.
