Havng fixed my overheating issue, I have noticed that I did not suffter only from lag spikes caused by overheating.

Havng done some research online, my laptop Asus g51vx rx05 with t9600 , Gtx 260m with a max temp running at 88 C should be able to handle diablo 3 at max without any problem, yet reality proves otherwise.

There have been lag spikes through out all my gameplay especially when running into mobs or using hardcore magics with other players. Not sure why but maybe I am putting too much expectation on this laptop.

but I am just curious, are there any asus users and diablo 3 player who are running the game just fine? Do you experience any lag at all?

I have a g51jx-a1 which to my knowledge is pretty much the same GPU (GTS360m)

I found after a fresh format and modifying the registry to keep all cores unparked. The screen tearing was gone

So your suggestion is reformat my hard rive and ......wut should i do about the registry?

But see I don't quite understand how my baby is able to run games like skyrim, l4d2, crysis 2 and more but not a simple diablo 3, for all I know this game has the graphics of warcraft.

Diablo 3 still needs some polishing on the Blizzard side. The thing is, the ammount of calculations to calculate greatly increases by the ammount of enemies.
Thus it helps to reduce the details somewhat.
With ctrl+r (but broken in Patch 1.0.3) you can see the ingame FPS.

Just so you know I use to get 60 fps nearly everywhere with my 5870m and 920xm (at 4x3.2GHz) in a g73jh. It used to drop to about 50fps average in act 3 just before entering"hell" or whatever it actually was. It did drop down a bit when there were huge waves of enemies and lots of spells being used. I didn't notice any other drops though.

The 5870m is a much more powerful card than your gtx260m. Those temps are a little high but not enough to worry about. Try lowering shadows, that helped me a bit. Everything but shadows was maxed.

EDIT: ohh I just remembered, diablo 3 will always lag for a while (first 5 mins of gameplay) on a HDD. I didn't have the problem with my SSD bit my friends did. I think it loads resourses as it needs them so a slower HDD will create lag spikes when new data is needed.

from a thread I read on battlenet forum, the lag is apparently caused by what you just said, hard drive. It said that is because diablo 3 doesn't load all data during a "loading screen" but it is constantly reading from your harddrive. One of the solution it introduced is to put the entire diablo 3 file on a flash drive, idk if it will work but i am about to try it out.

I wish one day I can just buy a game, install , and play .

I actually also recently switch my second drive (where my games are installed) to an ssd, a Corsair M4 256 GB it is :)
Since then not even anymore any hickups in the first 5 mins!
    I love it :D

I have heard good things about using a usb drive. I am using an Intel 320 series 160gb SSD as shown in sig. My HDD is a seagate momentus 7200RPM 500gb model (Seagate ST9500420AS).

I can relate to carulli as I play D3 with around 45 to 57 fps on the average (Max settings on all, Vsync off, Middle(smooth) on shadow)

If I enable Vsync, my fps instantly drops to 30fps. Setting the shadow to High(smooth) makes my fps run at around 40 to 50 fps.

Reducing the shadow and disabling Vsync helps a lot in terms of fps. Screen tearing with Vsync off is not noticeable in my G73JH, I'm not sure with your machine Hihiip.

from what i gathered, it would seems that even with higher end spec like you guys' laptop aren't getting the performance that I was hoping for. So I have concluded that I should just turn down the settings (as you said, shadows) and be happy that d3 runs at all. And as expected performance did increased.

    so thanks!

but Idk if I mentioned before but toward act 2 final boss, I get freeze/lag frame when i destroy the benches regardless of what settings Im at(even less likely caused by shadow).

so Im thinking that if I can fix what ever it's causing that, my performance will increase.

I am pretty sure the framrate drops to 30 because it is suposed to limit mouse lag/ latency issues. think about this if your screen is refreshing 60 tiems a second, you are getting 40fps and vsync is on there are 20 "skipped" frames. That means that every 3rd frame or so is actually he same as the last. So it will go smooth jumpy smooth jumpy. This isnt necessarily correct but it is my understanding. If you get constant 60+ fps then vsync stays at 60fps.

@hihiip201, I am thinking that problem is the same as the HDD load one. D3 will probably get better performance on older card in future drivers but i imaging not very much. An overclock is always an option. just a small, 10%OC on your graphics card could raise your fps by about 5 if you are lucky.

Well actually after i started using the flash drive the game is playable in general even at open envoriment and intense battle, it is the now and then physics lag that is annoying me, so I don't see OC working it's magic in here.

It seems the HDD issue is the only thing stands between me and smooth play d3 :p

Physics is mostly processed by the CPU, I think, so if you try a CPU overclock you may see a boost. If it is playable then congrats to you. It is an amazing game and you will enjoy it.

The down side to this whole situation is that you can now see that your laptop is starting to show its age...

um... i upgraded my cpu to t9600 2.8 duo core so i don't think that's the problem there.

but yea i hear you, thought i really want a new laptop i am thinking that... maybe it's time for me to start looking into a desktop.

I have a G60Jx. So its close to your model.

I noticed that turning off shadows helps immensely with frame rate issues. They don't really add too much to the aesthetics and it increases performance dramatically. Went from about 30-35 FPS to 80 FPS. All else on high.

Also, many of the lag spikes are on blizzards end with it being online only. They have some server optimizing to do.

Long time lurker, first time poster. ;)

I, too, am having the same issue on my VX7SX-DH71 even though it should run D3 with relative ease. (Max settings, v-sync off, AA on)
