if so, are there any brands in particular that would help alleviate this? Or is it basically up to a update to fix?

Doesn't matter because this is a chipset related problem. When power saving is used the chipset negatively affects SSD performance.

SSD performance can only be put to maximum if power saving is disabled.

My opinion; there will be no fix for this which keeps power saving features on while not hampering performance. Basically my guess is that the chipset has a design flaw which can't be fixed. I would very much like to be proven otherwise but what I have seen so far is that the full performance only comes back after completely turning off power saving features.

The HM55 and PM55 chipset are flawed. Fubarred.

Just dug up a thread from back in March, apparently the only noticeable difference is in benchmarks and the real world difference is neglible, a grand total of .1 MS(milliseconds, not even an entire second)

    Can anyone confirm this?

Photoshop loads a few SECONDS faster if i disable CPU Idle state and make the SSD run at full 4k read speeds, so the difference is definetely noticable.

Yes that is correct. Most of the difference you see in an ssd/hard drive comparison comes from the incredible access times of the ssd, .1ms compared to about 9ms for the hard drive. This is what accounts for the majority of the peppiness you wil se when using the system for basic things like surfing/emails/etc...

My system boot is less than 8 seconds with my ssd i don't seem to notic any lag in performance. My index score went up to a 7,9 after i got it

Im sorry but i just dont believe this. The WEI is limited by CPU (i have the i7-820qm and its 7,2, so with a lower CPU it should be even lower), GPU (also 7,2 on 10.8 cats) and memory (7,4 for my 4x 2gb 1333mhz sodimms) and my X25-M G2 160GB scores 7,7.
My boot time with all the optimizations and registry tweaks you can think of is around 16 seconds from the moment i press the power button.
The boot time you claim to have sounds very unrealistic, especially considering the 4k reads/writes are in the toilet on these chipsets and small file reads/writes are whats happening a lot at boot.

Which SSD do you have then?
Post a screenshot of BootTimer, Disk drives tab open in device manager and WEI too so we can see what youre talking about.

    This is my BootTime:
Add around 5 seconds for the bios boot screen which this program does not count and youve got the entire boot time of around 16 seconds.

Yeah, mine is unscientifically around about 15 seconds, so I agree with this. Also I think my WEI is 7.0 (limited by the CPU). I think some screenies are in order Robda.

I doubt we'll see a fix for this one that gives us everything. There are some workarounds- you either lose power/batt-saving (and apparently gain in heat), or you lose some speed. For now, I've chosen the speed loss.
