Just curious how they hold thier value, thinking of going back to a desktop and suchI have the X1 with 8GB of RAM and a single 500GB HDD

It's a computer. Like a car, it's not worth nearly as much once you've opened the box. Aim for 70-80% of the price, and settle for 60-70.
Maybe you'll do better? But considering you've got an -X model, there isn't any reason for someone to buy it used when they could get it new with a full warranty.
So, your question "Do we take a big loss" is ... NO. At least, it isn't any better or worse than any other technology. -
iphones for example cost about 130 $ to produce. -
Of course. We pay a huge markup for everything.
Especially Apple products *cough*. -
Think I could nab $1250 shipped out of it?
-
shoot for a grand i'd say.
if your verbally talking with someone about the sale. high ball it to 1250 then be like. "wellllllll for you i guess i could take the huge hit and go to 1000" -
In Europe they hold the value better... since the A1 I have is not available in france anymore, I saw a couple go for 1600euros (down from 1800 new) but of course, next year that will have come down...as soon as new cpu's and gpu's are out you loose the real gamers (the ones who know) and you still have a year for the everyday users. After about a year, you have to slash.
I lived in the states a long time and it's true over there stuff looses value very fast. A bit slower in Europe, cars are the same. -
I think the OP can easily get $1100 for it on ebay - probably more.
The easiest way to check the current used value for an item is just check the ended listings on ebay.
There is was an X1 that sold on ebay recently for $1300, so it's not terribly far fetched. You will have to consider ebay/paypal fees though. -
They seem to have held quite a lot of value over here in Australia as well. My RBBX05 is still selling at the same price as it originally was when I bought it, and I could probably sell it on for about 90% of the price I payed.
Part of the reason for that though, is because a lot of the brick and mortar stores over here charge some pretty incredible prices. And since Australia is a little behind in terms of tech, people predominantly fear the internet (even I do, to some extent). Hell, you pay about $2000 AUD for an HP Dv7 (latest release design). The new Toshiba Qosmio X500 with the GTX 460M is a whopping $3600 AUD, vs a nice price of $1200 over in the US. -
edit: seems they now have the cheaps one again, the other one wasn't sold by fnac but by another retail through their online store, but still a rip off apparently only one left:
Asus G73JH-TY153V 17,3" LED - Ordinateur portable à la Fnac
so people bought some XD -
yeah... Materiel.net pulled off the 8GB model for a bit, then put the 6GB model at the same price. Nice.
-
I'm seeing used ones on ebay for 800$+ with dozens of bids, so essentially, you can probably grab 1000-1200$ for it.
-
What do you guys think about 1400-1500 with the 120GB SSD OCZ Vertex 2?
-
-
People tend to think they ought to get a discount from a private sale if you're adding in additional (unasked-for) upgrades. The rationale is that they only want the base model, by forcing them to take an upgrade, they'll take it ... but not for as much as retail.
-
I had an offer come in on ebay for the lappy without the SSD lol, I replied and will post the final outcome
-
Yeah Ebay is a far better choice for the G73 sale then on these boards.. Most things have to dumped at very low prices on NBR to move them...
-
it is too true...
-
Well for all the doubters it just sold on ebay for almost 1600 bucks
-
-
-
Why did you sell? What are you buying to replace? -
Moving back to a desktop with 12GB of RAM, a 930 @ 4.2, and GTX 470 SLi pushing hopefully 3 1920X1200 displays
and I'm in Florida
the guy who bought it was from Aus so I'm guessing it was way cheaper than what they cost down there

someone buy my hp... i don't need it..
