Seeing a lot of people are having problems with faulty G73JH, I would like to conduct a survey to get an idea of the percentage of faulty machines and the types of faults.
-
I chose the 1333mhz memory since that's what my machine came with. However, it wasn't a problem with the speed of the memory, but the fact that Windows 7 only recogizned 4GB instead of 8GB. The BIOS however does see all 8GB of ram. That problem isn't listed in this poll.
-
So you are saying it's Windows 7's fault? If that is the case, then it should be a Microsoft issue rather than G73JH issue
-
Strangely dead screen here. No LCD output and no external monitor output via HDMI or VGA. Laptop booted up just fine, but no graphics... and no the Fn + F7 or F8 doesn't make a difference. Pushing the reset on the bottom doesn't either. It's at NewEgg via RMA right now.

Would a mod be able to add "Motherboard" to the options?
thanks -
I feel very lucky.. idk why lol I didn't know this many people had problems with their g73
-
Thanks for putting up this poll. I'm considering a purchase.
-
I voted for the 1333 ram issue even though I don't yet have a definitive answer. My computer would freeze when playing BC2 for 10 - 20 minutes on high where I would have to do a hard boot to get it back. My computer recognized 8gb ram when this all started. I thought it might be a bad ram stick, so I removed ram from the slots to see if I could isolate which one(s) was/were bad. Well, when putting the ram back in, I could only boot into bios, not Windows, with all four slots filled. It would not allow me to repair either thru windows repair or recovery disc. So now, I'm running the computer with 3 sticks of ram with the computer only recognizing 4gb instead of 6. As I get answers from either ASUS, Ken at GenTech, or this forum, I will update.
-
From the poll, looks like the casualty list just keep piling up. Mostly RAM issues
-
Well, it's 4am and I'm still at it.. LOL.. I was able to get my system up and running again with all 8gb by going into the bios and hitting the "reset bios to default" button. I don't know why I waited for 6 hours to do that, but hey.. I never said I was intelligent... I'm going to run some additional tests tomorrow per Ken and see if I can get the puter to fail again. Isn't this fun?? Still love this computer, though.. even with a few hiccups..
-
Nice to hear you sorted your issues for now at least, Col
-
If you discount memico's as I would be inclined to believe he didn't understand the poll or was trying to skew the results it actually isn't too bad for a brand new mass produced product.
-
This is the thread I need!
Hopefully some ppl will step back from their pre-order so I could get 1 from the march 4 shipment -
uh, DRevan, why do you vote when you haven't got your system yet? That will skew the result
-
as of yet no (major) issues... did have a freeze up while in the middle of installing AMD clock tool, but that was a week ago and I haven't had any problems since then.
-
I'm tempted to vote up the keyboard for having issues....but I'm not really certain that it's an "issue". Sure, it sucks, and may require you to type the keys a little bit harder than you're used to, but I don't know that that makes it an "issue". It's not like sending it back for repair will likely get it fixed, if you know what I mean.

No problems here either, not counting the random freeze from enabling bass boost [in the middle of recovery disc creation, ugh]
2 days of tweaking has the startup down to around 45 seconds. .I guess not bad for the stock HDD and no full format/reinstall. -
...only one letter missed in this post. -
Mandrake, that's an old Asus issue. Disable your touchpad and the keyboard lag will disappear. I complained about it long ago with the G51 and it seems Asus still hasn't fixed it.
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
A poll here on a topic like this will offer little insight into any production issues on the G73 model - less than 50 responses in a production run by Asus of thousands of units, and as most G73 owners are not forum members, so any and all results will be both biased and offer no real validity....

Actually for gaming I haven't had a problem with the keyboard yet. Probably because the only keys that I use when I game are the WASD keys, and those don't really seem to be giving me much trouble. Plus, the problem only really occurs when i'm trying to type stuff out too fast. I'll have to look into disabling the touchpad as Joker recommends...that's interesting. I don't think that'll fix the issue with the spacebar not registering though...that's just purely a design flaw. -
Mine is good so far. The only thing that pisses me off is everytime I restart my computer then load firefox it takes a long time to get connected on internet.
I got mine from newegg 3 days old so far. -
Anybody elses keyboard backlight seem to have a mind of it's own? I swear mine just kinda turns itself on whenever it feels like it. Luckily it never turns off without "permission" lol.
-
To bring more light to my problem, yes, I took out the RAM and reseated them all. I also installed 64 bit Windows 7. Nothing I did to the machine would make Windows 7 recognize 8GB of ram. Whether or not Windows 7 or the motherboard was at fault, I couldn't tell. That's why I sent mine back for replacement.
-
hi, guys, it looks like when the moderator added the option of "Motherboard", it accidentally removed all the votes of "My System has no Fault !".
Those who voted that option please kindly vote again, cheers. -
KEYBOARD:
My unit came with key thatwhen struck your couple together.
Example: l; 9p -\ ./
However, no one else has reported this problem. I assume it was dropped in shipping -
Edit: still happens once in a while. -
-
Option not on the poll, but I noticed that my speakers sometimes crackle on shutdown. Haven't had it the last few times I've used it though...
-
I must say, these issues + the previous hot asus G series, make me worry about the quality policy which asus seems to have now.
Did we bring this upon ourselves by demanding something cheap? I sure hope not. In the meanwhile, I think i'll wait to see what asus will release next... -
I've only seen maybe 4 legitimate complaints.
-
-
Just a friendly reminder for people to keep voting. The bigger the sample size, the better. I will ask a mod to add "Sound Card" to the poll
-
I have had my machine now for 12+hrs and have been using it sense I got it. Have had no issues at all. It does appear though, coincidentally that issues seem to be plaguing the X1 models... I have an A2 with no issues...
-
Is there any way to remove MEMICO's votes?
It really skews the data since he is in almost every category - if it is the truth it was just a dead machine... -
-
Hi, please share where you purchased those units with problem, undecided whether to go with powernotebook or xoticpc...thanks.
-
EDIT: looks like he's still showing for a few of them, but the correct # of votes is there. -
I cleaned it up as best I could , memico's votes do not count now
+ A couple of edits on suspicious votes
He must of thought it was a contest to win a laptop or something
Alex -
hi, Alex, while you are at it, can you also remove DRevan's vote? He clearly said that he hasn't bought the machine yet.
And please kindly add the following choices to the poll
Sound
Battery
Others
thanks again -
Nice thread, I am debating the purchase and I am glad you have put up a good way to track a few of the issues around NBR.
Thanks again +1 to you OP. -
Any chance they could add Lockup's into the list?
-
-
Thanks sandman, i've been checking their ratings and feedback from http://www.resellerratings.com/ and both got high scores, just checking this thread to see if any of the faulty G73JH owners got their unit
-
Mine was plagued with the 4 gigs vs 8 gigs problem when I got it. That and the system would mysteriously shut down with no rhyme or reason (I'm going to attribute that to the RAM issue) Asus has had it for a week now and I keep getting the run around about when I'll get one back. They're sending me a replacement unit (allegedly) but according to them I have to wait for one to come up in production. I think it's a load of crap. If I wait much longer I'm going to pitch a fit to someone at ASUS. For $1500 they shouldn't have sent out as many faulty g73's as it seems has gone out. Poor quality control. Has anyone else noticed that calling customer service at ASUS sends you to the same 3 or 4 people all the time that do nothing but promise to get you the "treasured use of a laptop" soon. Whatever that means.
-
thanks
Do you have a faulty G73JH ?
