I am having the G73JH-A2.
I have read several article about repasting and replacing CPU for G73 series and decided not to do it because it is too risky.
So, can ASUS do it?
I would be happy to know. If not, i would like to know someone live near St.Petersburg can do it.![]()

Alienware does , and i was wondering the same thing. I'd be happy to know.

I would say yes, you can call them you know. but they will kick you with their price for sure. (talked to them once, they told me for example if I give them a screen that I bought, and they replace it, it will be lower price ( about 80% less maybe)
-
I wouldn't personally because of the price & there is always going to be a chance of breaking something when repasting or replacing something and that applies if you do it or if you give it to Asus to do it. If you research and follow the instruction then you cant go far wrong to be honest. Gonna upload my repaste explanation shortly (finally) had the pics and movies etc hanging around for ages.
Most dont have a problem but IMO I would rather break it myself than someone else break it. -

The advantage of letting Asus do the upgrade is that every single CPU i found on eBay was some kind of " Beta " hardware , not brand new one " retail " one ( we can't say retail cause they're not sold , but they are not test one )
I'd like to know how much they may charge to have the last i7 CPU for exemple -
All I know is; on my second RMA (my own fault for bricking my GPU), I included a tube of ICD7 and asked them to repaste it with that for me, instead they put their own crap on, two different types/thicknesses of thermal pads, and kept my ICD. <__<
Good luck on any requests; however now that Chastity works there you might stand a better chance. -
-
OP , If I wanted to do this, I would contact Ken Lee GenTech PC and ask what his firm would charge. No slight against ASUS but unless they could guarantee Chastity would work on my machine I would go with gentech.

Question from me is IF you could have Asus upgrade the GPU on a G53SW a few years down the line?

Can you ask them about upgrading to Core i7 840QM / 920XM?
Considering the 840 because there won't be a huge different in gaming between 840QM and 920XM. -
No she works for ASUS , Ken Lee is the man at gentech. Sorry if I was not clear. You can send a Private message to either one from this forum -
Chastity or GentechPC -

I hope she doesn't get mad becase i called her "he" once.
And is it really worth to upgrade to 920XM? I am aiming to play BF3 at reasonable FPS. -
QS models are $260 on ebay, and make a nice upgrade.

Are there more than St.Pete in United States? -

- Contact your reseller. That should be what people ALWAYS do first rather than posting on these forums. It's so much easier, get the answer direct from those who are authorized to sell and customize the notebookes... -

Can you guys do it?
I would love to have my laptop upgraded by an Experienced hand. -
I suppose they can if you buy the chip from them
Asus' idea of doing upgrades is you buying a newer model. -

920/940XM only, we came acrossed. Just look at the 3.2GHz on each core (920XM OC) vs 840QM's 1.86GHz on each core. 840QM seems like a really big fail here, and you can't OC a 840QM much with just raising the FSB while the XM's multipliers can be controlled.

i will wait till Dallers try BF3 with his 920XM before i decide to do anything.
