Thinking about getting it, hear it has a lot of problems.

It's always a coin toss. I went through 2 before I found 1 that is working perfectly. With that, I mean no GSOD with ANY drivers.
-
Look in my sig for a thread with a collected list of problems. Its a gamble.
And post these threads about the G series in the Gaming subsection! -
-
Its a gamble... okay. I dont know if I should choose it. - Is it still worth buying? Does it have heating issues?
-
To answer the original question - yes, it has a huge amount of problems. For a $1600 piece of equipment, they are most definitely not worth dealing with. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a Sager/Clevo, or Alienware or MSI.

.
My answer would be that it has zero problems, I used it quite alot for a week or so, tested furmark tested all the 3d mark programs, played SC2 and SupCom2, carried it around places, NO PROBLEMS. Heat stays LOW, got around 67C CPU and ~10 C higher GPU, no issues.
Yes, people do have problems, especially it seems the older ones, the new ones comes with the new bios and seems to work just fine. I´d say definetely go for it! The brands CZX58 recommended should also work fine.
Welcome to the world of "Uh, crap I just but bought a laptop for 1600+, I must be insane" -
Not for anything, but I am still considering the G73, and weighing whether or not to buy one given all the issues that have been reported. I, too, am hoping that Asus solved the huge myriad of problems with the line with their newer units and updated drivers, but your post comes off a little irresponsible to me, Dilgar. You started out with a somehwat tongue-in-cheek insult of a post that, granted, may have been a little reactionary, but made sense from a reality standpoint, given the huge problems people are having and that some members of this forum have been waiting MONTHS after buying their 1600+ laptops and still haven't gotten them back. You are categorically dismissing all the issues and assuming that Asus has solved the problems!
You know what? I am sort of doing that as well, and may buy the G73 on faith because of all the luscious components it has in it. But let's be damned clear about it. I would NEVER make such an irresponsible claim on a public forum as to blithely encourage people to take the same chances that you and I would apparently be willing to take with the laptop.
The fact is, we DO NOT truly know if the problems are solved, or if the sales numbers of the laptop are down, or perhaps they are steady but people aren't coming to this forum to report their issues like they were. Not everyone goes to forums. -
Every since i flashed with ziddy's vbios i haven't had any issues on any drivers.
-
-
Oh absolutely! I am not going to buy one of these off of Amazon, eBay, or Best Buy, not with all the issues. The problem is, however, that many of the problems people are having come after a week or more of daily use. While testing a lappy from a facility like xoticpc (and if I go with a G73 and not a Qosmio I will buy it from Justin at xoticpc) is a great thing, they are not going to use it constantly for a week. They are going to boot it up, make sure it works, and send it to me. I seriously doubt that anyone in this forum has received G73s that were DOA.
-
It's not just that they'll boot it up and say it's good. Instead, have them update to the latest drivers, run Furmark, etc. since those are worst case conditions and if it doesn't GSOD there, it's not likely going to.
-
Ah ok. Do they charge a service fee for that kind of a thing? Or is it something they include in the price?
-
-
I don't think it's much use, one of the guys at Xoticpc said himself that people were having alot of trouble with the G73JHs...if they had been tested beforehand, obviously it didn't ferret out the problem.
-
A4500435, the same guy a few weeks later, told me that he has seen the issues resolved and that he now recommends the G73JH, where he did not a month or two earlier.
-
Oh, then everything's just dandy then. You hear that people, everyone go get a G73JH! They're just fine, everything's been solved!!!
I DON'T BUY IT.
If that were the case, how come we're not seeing it in the real world? How come a new B1 model was needed to supposedly fix the problems that have supposedly already been solved?
Everyone's got to sell off their inventory sooner or later.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Does it have problems: yes.
Have those problems been fixed: some yes
Is asus working on a solution to GSODs (new vBios and cat drivers): According to the asus rep on notebookreview, yes. Look for the updates from asus thread in the asus gaming forums. Did i have problems with mine yet, no. Updated everything except for the video drivers which are still on 10.1 CCC.
Am i satisfied with my notebook: yes despite the few problems.
Does the G73 have problems?
