Hello all - I'm a new G74-A1 owner and unfortunately failed to realize I had chosen a non-Blu-ray model. I've read some of the issues people have had with re-mounting the bezel on some drives, so my question is for anyone who has successfully swapped their drive - which blu-ray drive is easiest to swap? Are there any I should specifically avoid? Does the bundled Roxio player support Blu-Ray after the switch?

    TIA for any insight!

Hi Blublub, if you're certain you have the A1 model you should have blu ray. Other models like XR1 or XA1 etc do not come with it. Maybe the blu ray isnt working as you're not using the right software to play. Before you purchase a new blu ray drive double check yours. Get into device manager and look at the model number of your drive, do a quick search on it and double check to see if it does have blu ray capabilities.

If you verify it doenst follow the links Dual_Everything give, they look good

Very sorry - my bad. I have the XA1. I admit to getting a bit lost in all the different configuration options (which helps explain how I ended up with a non-BD version). That said I'm delighted with the machine I received but would love the blu-ray option in the future.

Thanks very much for the links and the recommendation on the Sony drive - I'll certainly have a look.

Yeah, if it's an A1, it has Blu Ray (baring some strange screw up at the factory!)

Sooooo glad you can theoretically replace it in case the drive ever goes bad :)
