Hallo all,
I've got a bit of a question about Asus G53, and really would appreciate some perspective from better informed folk.
Currently my machine's CPU cores temperatures n the ' high performance' mode at between 48c to 53c according the SpeedFan readouts - and the left vent (from what I've read that's the CPU's) is quite warm; spewing out a good deal of hot air. The GPU is at a much more reasonable 40c. Now this is during usual PC usage at this power setting - right now it's mainly chrome running with a ton of tabs, and plugins (it's a bad habit).
When running a 3D application like UDK (editor and running like a game)- which I have running for long periods often the GPU rises to 76c - 80C and CPU cores are between 73c and 80c
Is this unnatural idling temperatures for an i7 in a G53?
Should I be worried?
I'm a pretty bad worrier.
I haven't given the laptop a compressed air shot yet either, the best I've done in cleaning it is blowing air (vigorously) into the back vents for about a year now; stupid I know.
Any perspective or advice would be greatly appreciated, and what worries me the most is the system going into meltdown when playing games. Laptops baffle me a bit alas, I've always been a desktop person.
Thanks again folks.

Those temps under load is pretty decent. I have the same temps. While playing GTA4 for a long time, my core temps are around 76-82C without any repasting. I think it's time to clean out my laptop too (I've never cleaned it out). Mebbe a repasting is in order.

How about the CPU temps during normal running on 'high performance' or 'entertainment' mode?
Do you find the core temps around 50c at with a good amount of hot air coming out of either of the vents at all? -

Your temps look fine, nothing to worry about. Once your gpu temps push 90C+ then you want to really look into lowering the temps with a repaste or cleaning out any dust. Your CPU cores are running warmer then ideal. Once they hit 80C thats higher then they should be.
To get more accurate numbers run some stress tests on the computer. Prime95 is great for the cpu, any 3D benchmark program will work for the gpu, 3D mark Vantage is a good one to use. Run those programs and monitor your temps. -
Cool cool thanks for the response. Even after giving the system an air clean out the CPU temps haven't had much of a change, so I'll keep repasting in mind; though I'm not too sure with myself in disassembling a the laptop to do so.
Question about the core temperatures though. Not sure if this is speed fan, but I'm getting readouts with some serious variety. There can be instances where one core temp is 10c higher than another core temp, at the moment for instance one core is sitting on 56c and other is on 66c (keeping in mind they are constantly moving).
Is there a possibility the heatsink has been been dislodged at all? I knocked it a little recently - nothing severe enough to cause physical damage, but I can't help but wonder - or if it's just the usual heat dissipation or speedfan readout?
