Well, just hit 96C last night playing Black Ops SP @ 1080p, so I assume it's time for a repaste. If I were to take it in to a LOCAL ASUS service centre, would anyone have any idea how long the procedure would take? What if I were to ask to replace the screen due to a small backbleed, as well? I guess asking them to swap out the keyboard for the keyboard lag would be useless? I would pick up the unit myself once it was repaired, so shipping time both ways is avoided. I ask because I will only be in town for two weeks for Christmas, and am wondering if they'd have it ready in time. Thanks in advance.

1) repasting took me 3 hours the first time. An experienced tech could do it in an hour.
2) Not sure about "backbleed". Some people have complained about bad black levels in dark sceens where the screen light bled through making the movie look poor. Those who got their screens replaced had worse performance with the replacement. I doubt they would replace it anyway.
3) replacing the keyboard will have no effect on the lag issue.
That only leaves repasting which you certainly need. I doubt they would do it right then but since all they need is new paste they would have no reason to take two weeks. Maybe you could make an appointment and ask for same day service.
Hope that helps. -
I'd be a bit surprised if it took any less than two weeks as they probably have a whole line of other notebooks in their repair shops to work on.

That's the part that worries me, mostly. I was recently at a local computer shop and the tech said he'd do it for $30 given that I provide the paste, which would probably be well worth the amount of stress a two-week+ RMA would give me. I guess I'll go down there and talk to them and see how long they estimate it would take.
My "backbleed" is rather unique, it's more of a purple blotch on the left side of the screen that can only be seen on dark background (really apparent when playing games like Amnesia) -
You can read the post in my signature about repasting. Maybe you can do it yourself. I don't think I would trust just any "local" tech to work on my G73. A non-Asus experienced tech is just as likely to break something as you are. If they have experience with the model and trust them, then I guess it is ok, but I wouldn't let the average "geek squad" type within 10 feet of my computer.
I agree with you and if you mail in your laptop to Asus directly you have to wait ( a lot). But since he is local an he is going to an authorized rep (which could be a small shop) there is no harm in asking if he can squeeze in a same day repaste, especially since he knows that is all he needs. Worth a try at least. -
I was wondering, If you gave them a tube of IC7 and told them to apply it. Would they?

Others have, so yes.
Esimated time for a LOCAL RMA?
