3 problems when using my external drive.
Info: I have the Seagate GoFlex 2TB USB 3.0
Problem 1: The hard drive crashes when i wake the laptop up from sleep/hibernate. I am still able to browse through the folders but when i select a TV/Movie to play it crashes explorer.
Problem 2: I am not able to restart my laptop when the hard drive is connected. The laptop shuts off just fine but when it turns back on it wont go past the ASUS logo screen. However, no issues turning off completely and manually turning on the laptop, this issue only happens when i select restart.
Problem 3: When i load into windows the laptop does not see the external drive. I have to unplug it and plug it back in for windows to pick it up.
Current Driver: Fresco Logic 3.5.24.0 (2011/12/11)
Side Note: I am not having any problems with the speeds. It transfers 90-100mb/sec when dealing with 1 large file and i get around 50MB/sec when i transfer more then 1 file to the hard drive. So no complaints there!![]()

I am having a different problem with a USB 2.0 drive, but in my research I reckon it might be the selective suspend settings causing it.
Have a look at the following article:
The computer stops responding when an USB device resumes from the USB Selective Suspend state in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
I am trying disabling selective suspend on the USB ports under the power plans (power options/plan settings/advanced/usb/selective suspend off).
As well as going into device manager and changing the usb hub options to uncheck the "allow the computer to switch off this port to save power".
Will know if it fixes my problems when I try some more file copying tomorrow.
A couple of things to try anyways. Good luck. -
i'm a little apprehensive about this hotfix..it is sending it to me in an email...
anyways thanks tho, it says "The update is not applicable to your computer"
so a little disappointed there
however, i did disable selective suspend on the USB ports and changed the power settings so i hope this will help! Thanks for the post. -
Hard to explain but it kind of work and kind of didn't.
I woke up this morning, started up my laptop and was able to play a video. Since i was just testing it i immediately closed the movie and tried to navigate back to my previous folder and thats when explorer crashed on me. I had to unplug and plug back in the hard drive to resolve the issue.
I'v been having a few issues with this laptop all dealing with the USB ports. I made a previous post about how my network speeds are low and it turns out if i use all USB ports (the 3 USB 2.0 and the USB 3.0) it drops my network speed. To fix the issue i have to go into my Ethernet properties and change my Speed & Duplex setting to 100Mbps Full Duplex.
Is it worth my time to send this laptop back to ASUS? The problems are very specific and i highly doubt that ASUS will spend the time to recreate the problems.
