I am obsessed with keeping my laptop cool, so I found out someone named oneb1t discovered how to control his fans on the G51JX. Although he used it for the JX, it still works for the G51, G60 and possibly the G50 because they all use the same MOBO.

    1) Download "RW -Everything" here: RW - Read & Write
    2) Run the program and click Access on the top left.
    3) Click Embedded Controller.
    4) Navigate to byte 90x00
    5) Change it to 02
    6) Fans will kick in at 100%!

Note: Only will a hard reset undo this! "Restart" does not work either.

For an optional un-permanent method, follow these steps:

    1) Do everything the same as before up to step 3.
    2) Navigate to byte 90x08
    3) Change the value to 01, 02, 03, 04, or 08.
    4) The computers ACPI will rechange this within 10 seconds, so it is only if you want a quick drop in temperatures.

    Works with:
    G50
    G51
    G60
    G53

    Enjoy!
P.S: Some anti-viruses will detect this as malware, although mine didn't. I assure you it's not. I have had this program installed for a week, and there is nothing wrong. If you are still paranoid, download the portable version, which does not install.

Can you explain what changing the value at 0x90 00 or 0x90 08 does and what other acceptable values for it?

I have a 260m in my G50vt so the fan control doesn't work (runs at100% all the time). This would be an awesome way to change it, assuming it works. The current value at 0x90 00 is 0x21.
