I'm trying to connect my old Canon ZR 40 camera to my G73JH - x1. I recently purchased a Mini firewire to USB cable off Ebay. When I plug it into my computer I'm getting a USB Device not recognized error. I'm running Windows 7. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

AFAIK you can't use just an adapter cable for that, you need a cable with a microcontroller that converts between protocols. They're more expensive and even then they don't really work that well.

Any other simple solutions? I don't think it's possible to get a firewire card for the laptop as it has no PCMCIA slot...

You could get a USB video capture device. Besides the cable with the built in controller, I'm out of ideas.

I had to get a USB video capture device to do what you are trying to do. I went through all the adapters and changers and none worked. One even came with a Win 7 driver that was to make it work. All it did was crash my machine. And tech support for it was a joke, they did not even know about the driver.

So as I found the only way to do this was with a capture device for the USB and so far it is working fine.
I my self will not buy anything with firewire in it any more, they are just not used enough in the computer world to make it worth messing with.
