Hi I just got my laptop about 1 week ago but I don't want to put any games or anything on it until I clean it up a bit. I noticed that someone wrote an excellent article on the 5 first things to do when you get your G73JH laptop. Can the same advice be applied to this one? I have so far only created recovery discs from the original factory condition (so that includes all the bloatware/crapware).
I want to clean it up and then create another set of recovery discs with "my version"

So if there are any beginners guides/advice for this laptop please provide where they are hidden within this excellent forum.
    Thanks.

I see no one has commented yet? Perhaps this is in the wrong part of the-foum? Admin-feel free to replace it if its in the wrong section. Thanks. I guess by the lack of replys I might also assume that the quick start guide written for the G73JH will also apply to this model?

Most peole have found the Recovery Disc Maker is not the best thing in the world. Many have found afterwards that one of the discs will probably not work. My recommendation is to acquire some partition backup software and make an image to a removable USB HDD. I use Acronis Home Image 2011 myself.

As for the bloatware, I only use the W3 Control app for the Wifi/Bluetooth, Power4Gear Hybrid and ATK Package. Everything else I removed.

In addition to Chastity's excellent suggestions (I highly recommend Acronis True Image Home as well)...

Here's a guide to help you decide what bloatware you may want to keep or remove: Asus Utility and Bloatware Guide

Other than that, here's a novel idea...how about using the machine for a while to make sure it's working?

There's hundreds of " I just got my G73xx and uninstalled x, x, and x, and disabled x, x, and x, and installed x, x, and x and now my G73xx [insert epic fail problem here]" threads here already....don't become a statistic. These new machines should run just fine out of the box (well, after you set the power setting to high performance ;)) - if not, get a replacement! You have plenty of time to incrementally update stuff...

    Enjoy your awesome new machine!

    :)

Thanks. I found that "Asus Utility and Bloatware Guide" AFTER I posted my questions (of course). I will read this guide and decide which ones to remove. Is PCDecrapifier a good choice to use to remove them? I'm going to remove the Asus automatic updates. I did burn 5 disks (after I bought good dvds) using the built in backup software that comes with the laptop. But I am going to still configure the machine to my liking and then use Acronis. Thanks for your help.

Or you could just reinstall Windows and install only what you need.

I don't know, but I wouldn't use a third party app when I can just go to Control Panel/Programs and Features and just remove apps from there...
