    Hi guys,

    About a year and a half ago, I bought a g50vtx1
its been working pretty well until about now

Yesterday, I was trying to install a game when I noticed that the dvd drive was extremely loud, as in it filled the whole room with spinning/rattling noise

Anyone know about screws I can tighten, or if I can find a replacement drive?

    Thanks

Very easy to replace. Couple of screws. Drives are available on ebay or newegg for under $50. You just need to swap the bezel w/o breaking the little clips. Take it slow and it'll be fine.

    Cheers,

Mine did that too for a bit, it's tempermental. I used a few pieces of duct tape to quiet it (I layered them so it created a bumper) and it helped a lot. I took it off a while ago, and now sometimes if i just firmly press it in a little it'll be in a position that's a lot quieter for some reason.

    Thanks guys

No, I dont think it was the disk, I had the same problems trying multiple dvds. However, the problem seemed to miraculously go away the next morning, works fine now. It will probably come back though, i think ill try removing the plate and see if its a replacable drive.

You don't need to remove the plate, it's one screw on the back with a CD icon near it. It is removable.
