Anyone using the G73JH card reader for additional storage? If so, what are you using (ie: brand, size, SD, SDHC, etc)?

I figure since there is a dummy card already in there to keep the port clean, might as well get a real card and put it to some good use.

Yeah, get a good class card (no matter what size) so the read/write speeds are decent and use it for shuttling files around to other computers. Or get a huge card and use it for backup emergency file access.

There isn't a lot of clear information about the G73's card reader specs and some Class 10 flash memory can get rather expensive when you get up in the 32GB range. For example the SanDisk Extreme 32GB SDHC for $225. That kind of money is starting to take you into the SSD range.

OTOH, I see a Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 10 for about $45 and the closest 32GB SDHC Transcend sells is a Class 6 for $100. I could get two 16GB Class 10's for that price and save $10. Both have lifetime limited part/labor warranty and free shipping, so no advantage there.

I suppose I have to ask myself what am I going to store that could potentially take up 32GB in one gulp. Besides drive image backups, probably nothing. Splitting the capacity across two 16 GB cards creates reassurance that if one failed, although that would send a big red flag, I'd still have the other.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to do, get the two 16GB Class 10's.

    Thanks for the replies.

BTW, does anyone know where you can get those little plastic clam shells for SD cards? It appears that the clam shell isn't included in the Transcend 16 GB card price.
