Has anyone tried this game on the G73JH yet?
I have occasional frame skipping / stutting after a couple of laps. It does not appear in the first few laps, but later on it kicks in and makes the game unplayable. It has nothing to do with the settings, no matter what settings you use, it appears even with having set everything the lowest. I have also tried with different Catalyst version (10.1 and 10.8), and updated DirectX but didn't solve the problem.
So if somebody has the game, please share your experience with it.

Any chance you have vsync off (or on?). Sounds like it May be a temp issue and the card would downclock to keep from overheating. V-Sync would help keep the card a bit cooler if its able to render abover 60fps. Also could be due to the game just being released and may have a memory bug or something..

The highest temp I've got (MemIO) is 83C. I have tried with Vsync on and off as well, didn't make any difference.

If anyone is interested this is the solution for stuttering/frame skipping/lagging in Formula 1 2010:
"Windows 7:
1. Delete original replay folder (and file) by exploring to ProgramData\Codemasters\FormulaOne\DataCache\yourc omputersname\
NOTE: The folder 'ProgramData' is hidden; in order to see hidden files and folders you have to check a box in folder options.
Windows 7 -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> 'View' Tab -> Select 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives'
Windows XP -> My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View - Select 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives'
2. Open Command Prompt with admin privileges (search 'cmd' and right click on cmd.exe and select 'Run as Adminsitrator')
3. Use mklink to create the symbolic link. This is what I typed, but you must edit this with your own file directories:
mklink /D C:\ProgramData\Codemasters\FormulaOne\DataCache\yo urcomputersname\replay H:\Games\F12010\replay
4. Now create the folder in the new location, in this case I created both the F12010 and replay folder on my H drive.
5. When launching the game, the 2GB replay.pbf file will be written to the file location you have specified. If you write this file to another hard drive, resources are freed up for your OS and game performance should increase.
Any performance increases this has given me are within the margins of error, however, others believe this to be a fix for lag and frame skips."

That fix is kinda odd. What if you didn't have another harddrive to move it to? Did it work for you?

I have had 0 problems running it on my g73jh. Use 10.8 with the fixed vbios, everything on ultra but my laptop res is 1600x900. If you used the fixed vbios, my starting GPU clock is always at 405, so I have change it back. Original is 700, I use 725mhz. I have only played 4 races though in career mode, with practice, qualifying and 20% race(10-12 laps) but still didn't have a problem.
I think a lot of the problems arrise from improper unistallation of older drivers. -
You don't need to set the GPU speed before gaming. It's PowerPlay downclocking the gpu on low load. Once you start gaming, it will ramp up to 700/1000, or whatever setting you use in Overdrive.
Or just disable PowerPlay. -
I have the same issues, going to look into it more later. I'm on 10.8 and gsod fixed vbios.

The problem is with the game. The same thing happens on the xbox version as well:
YouTube - F1 2010 stuttering on XBox 360
Many people reported this issue on desktop PCs both with Ati and Nvidia cards. So it is definitely a game bug. Probably Codemasters will release a fix soon. Until that the solution I posted above works well for me and many other pc users, given that you have 2 HDDS. -
guys... im gettng it soon... i have g73... and planning to get gaming steering wheel... any recommendation??? i want a cheap/working one... thanks
-
The one I am thinking about is the Apollo F1 Enzo.
-> Apollo Multimedia - Entertaining the World
It is made for formula 1, and costs about 40 Euros. Of course it is not the best on the market, but at least it looks somewhat like a formula 1 steering wheel.
There is one problem though, no one can tell me if it works with formula 1 2010.. I would only buy it if it does.
Whether it is available in the USA or not, is another question mark. -
I used the above solution that you re posted from the forums. I didn't have a second hard drive so I used a USB thumbdrive, wasn't completely sure if I did it correct but there was the replay folder shortcut in the main directory. Anyways, it fixed the lag - but I tried it without the USB drive in, and it still worked lol. Game is lots of fun though! I use my xbox 360 controller with a wireless receiver for on the go, otherwise I have a G27 on a Playseat connected to a tv [HDMI output on laptop].

Just installed the game yesterday and I have exactly the same problem as you on my Asus G1S.
However in the solution you posted on page 1, I'm having trouble knowing what to do or understanding from steps 3 and on. Can someone guide me through those steps? Maybe more detailed info might help me through. (I'm running on Vista 64bit)
P.S I do not have a second hard drive, can I still fix this problem? -
Ok i found the replay folder and replay.pbf file and deleted it.
So I started the game, then I went back to my destop and the replay folder and file was back to its original place.
And how to I defragment the replay 2gb file? All i have is a 0kb file. -
It sounds like a memory leak. Could be wrong but I'm sure a patch will take care of it.
How the game? Really considering this for my G51VX. -
it runs just fine for me , im on 10.8 and beta bios !
-
it runs perfectly on mine.. with ultra settings... 10.7 with bios 209...
-
RUns maxed out at 1920 x 1200 onmy JH as well.
I love it. Fun game.

I also love the game...and initially it ran like a dream. But about halfway through my first race, had the stuttering problem mentioned in this thread. I have no extra hard drive or flash drive to attempt what has been recommended. I can only hope this gets patched...and quick.
Running stock drivers with bios 211. Upgraded to 10.8, but ended up with a GSOD...such is the life of a G73 owner... -

In this example letter H: represents your flash drive, the first part with letter C: is obvious.
When you are done with this, just remove the flash drive and I think it should work in the future. So you could just borrow a thumb drive, get the job done, and give it back.
Just give it a try... -
Just a thought on the stuttering issue:
Has anyone tried using a USB Flash drive for ReadyBoost? -
holliday777 Notebook Evangelist
Have the new bios...tried the flash drive...also tried a tip I found on the Codemasters forum to make the replay a read-only file....still no luck.
Love the game, but I'm going to wait for a patch...plenty of other good stuff out these days to play....
Thanks for those that tried to help though.
