I bought one of these models a months ago, returned it because of the battery issues and general disappointment at the performance (driver update issues, fan noises...). Mine was more than 1 Inch thick with temp rarely rising above 75C for both CPU and GPU while gaming.

But now I see models online, with the exact same name, being listed as 0.94 inches thick and praised for their silent fans, while complains are made about the temps rising in the 80s and 90s.

Are we dealing with two different laptops with the exact same model name?

It gets even more confusing when I try looking for the latest models with the kaby lake upgrade. The ones listed are given a black case design in the pictures while in reality they're supposed to be aluminum white.
Am I the only one who gets lost in all these confusing listings?

I'm pretty sure Asus lied about the VS models which are 1.2" thick and listed them as .94" which is the thickness of the VM.

The VS model at 1.2" has terrible temp reports though, you seem to have gotten lucky... So be glad!

And yes, Asus is confusing and unhelpful... Even XoticPC listed the GL502VS as both .94" and 1.2" because I'm not sure even they get which is which.

Asus uses the same marketing photos for all of their models.
and xoticpc just reads whatever it says on those marketing photos, so it adds to all the confusion.

blame it on the crappy Asus marketing department

The VM has a lower profile plastic base cover.
The VS has a taller profile plastic base cover.

and 75C is pretty damn cool.

The kaby lake 502VS silver edition may have solved the battery issues, as it is supposed to come with a 230w adapter

I was going by the Asus utility if it changes anything. Maybe they gimped the temps you read on their software to make their hardware look better?
