I am having issues with my HDMI out. My g73 will freeze instantly when I connect my HDMI. At first I thought it was the 11.4 drivers but I went back all the way to 10.10 and still have the same problem. My HDMI was working fine before I went to 11.4 did I do something wrong? Could it be a vbios issue?

Try reinstalling the HDMI audio drivers too.

uninstall all your ATI and realtek drivers , run driver sweeper and reinstall ATI + realtek+ realtek HDMI drivers.

Thanks. I am still having the issue after uninstalling my ati/realtek drivers, running driver sweeper, and instaling ati+realtek+realtek hdmi. Instant hardlock/freeze when I plug in the HDMI cable.

Have you checked for any firmware updates for your display?

Generally, when I have a weird problem like that, I reformat. Because I don't install junk, and usually its a corruption issue. I havn't had to do that with my G73 (probably because it doesn't get hauled around everywhere the way my smaller laptops do...), but a system restore isn't usually the best way to "fix" things.

I immediately think that you've borked something with your install, and I'd suggest a clean install. Not a system restore, but a full wipe and restore, with the bare minimum of drivers installed. Once you're sure that it is stable with the bare minimum, you can add things like creative, etc. and you'll be able to spot the problem immediately - since you're keeping track of what gets reinstalled.

No junk, no corruption, just the smell of a clean, fresh install.

Thanks for the tips. I did the firmware updates for the display I am using but still freezing. I also did a clean install but I installed ati drivers + realtek/hdmi right away and still have the problem. I guess I can try again and try my hdmi after each driver install... Also the HDMI works in the bios and safe mode. VGA works also.

I also noticed that when I am in the bios or safe mode my tv thinks my hdmi is a dvi input. one more thing is under playback devices ati hdmi audio always says its unplugged.

You could see if using ATI's supplied HDMI driver will do better. See their site for download.
