I've noticed as of late that there seems to be an increase of posters asking about these issues, and I wanted to get some feedback on what works as a fix, and what doesn't. Plus I wanted to post some solutions to some common issues:

Stuttering Video Playback when connected to a External Video Source

I had this one come up myself, playing back some .mkv 1080p files to my external TV. :) The problem is the video playback was jerky. The cause: I had the TV output enabled along with the LCD panel enabled. Limiting the system to just 1 video output (in my case, external HDMI) solved the issue. Use FN+F8 to toggle modes.

Lockups and Freezes while Gaming or just Idle

To test a workaround, try removing the battery and run on AC Only. People with AMD can disable PowerPlay to get full clocks, and try the game in question on battery only. I had one person (pav) who couldn't play SC2 for more than 20 seconds without getting a blank screen and lockup. I had him disable PowerPlay and run the game on battery only, and was able to play fine for 10 minutes. He's now ordered a new Targus APA05 to see if a new brick solves his issues.

Another (TallRed) has stuttery video playback off internet streams, and discovered his issues go away when on AC power only, or battery only. He did a full cycle discharge/recharge, disabled core parking, and redid video drivers. He's also on P4GH 1.1.37. Still working on his case.

As I mentioned, I'm interested in your own issues, and whether any of the suggestions given help.

    Hi,

Ok I was just about to post an issue i'm having exactly like the one you're talking about. Now there's something I wanted to point out.

I've played a lot of games on this laptop (G73JH-BST7) and I've noticed that almost ALL games i've played are having stutter issues. Sometimes I got used to it, and sometimes not. Here's something I want to point out, and it may be able to help people fix the problem.

I play HoN (Heroes of Newerth) and I noticed that most of the time I'm having are VIDEO stutters (characters are locked up, nothing's moving etc) but the AUDIO (meaning the music) is still running. It also happens vice versa, the video is still running (characters are moving etc) but I hear the audio repeating itself.

That's the only case in that game, but when I played TF2, when there's something NEW that's gonna happen (like a new sound, action etc) it's gonna stutter. Even on CoD:BlackOps, I usually die with a grenade AFTER the stutter. So I just thought that the stuttering I'm having is because of loading issues. I'll try that fix of yours, will post here to get results.

EDIT: It seems disabling PowerPlay removes the stutter issue, but will have to test longer gameplay on games I'm playing.

FN+F8 is a toggle between multiple modes... keep hitting it until you get the mode you want

LCD Only / HDMI Only / Both

Its game-specific for me. Everything runs smooth but Bulletstorm. I also get similar micro-stutter in COD4 and its ilk, but it usually smoothens out. I'm beginning to think its a HDD issue.

Every other game works fine though. Tried with and without Powerplay. No difference.

As for video playback, zero issues. large .ts files, bluray rips, large mkvs, all play without any stutter.

    On 11.6 Mobility Mod.

Hello, I know it's an old thread but I hope you can help, or give me some hints. Specs: G53JW, i7 q740, 6gb ram, gtx 460m. I'm not sure about my HDD though, can't seem to find anywhere which one I have (it's a 750gb one) ;p.
The laptop freezes and stutters after some time when playing MW3 or LoL (anw when used extensively). Sometimes it happens at 40 mins, other times at 5 mins. It then requires a hard reset to come back to life. No BSOD as such or any other message when this happens.
I've read a post by s00tie where he concluded to changing his HDD but he didn't reply if that was the problem in the end. Just asking before setting off and buying a new HDD if I'm still gonna have the same problems afterwards.
