Hey guys! This forum has been great and helped me make the decision to purchase my G73 from Best Buy today. So thank you.![]()
Now, I really need to get a fresh copy of Windows 7 on this beast. I've got a couple spare Windows 7 Pro keys and would love to use one on here.
Are there any very important programs that I need to have after installing a fresh copy of W7? I already know to get the video and sound drives but anything else specifically that would affect use of this model?
My system didnt come with any discs, I had to create my own backup disc as soon as I started it up... is that all i need from it?

Just download all this drivers on asus website...

k im just making sure! my first time with a laptop so dont want to screw anything up ^__^
-
yeah, the asus site certainly has things covered from an essentials standpoint

When you get on the Asus G73JH drivers site, skip the Utilities folder if you want a clean install.

See the link in my sig.

I've found that the only item from the ASUS folder I use is HControl.exe, which allows me to adjust the keyboard backlight brightness. Without that little exe running, the keyboard backlight is permanently off.

There is a quicker way, and you do not need to reinstall everything. The best part is, if your not happy with the result, then do a reinstall of the OS. Try it out, pcdecrapifier, it's not a joke. I said it many times. I have use this software, and have done fresh installs, no difference what so ever, except the time and frustration doing a fresh install. And no I have no connection to this software, I heard about it a few years ago from Leo Leport on Tech TV.

actually...for this powerful of a system...I have just uninstalled manually all the crap that asus loaded on here. Its now perfect and lag-free goodness. no more crap anywhere either.

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Well, that is, if you don't insist on using Pro. -
ok, thanks for all of the advice. Yea I want to use Windows 7 Pro on here.
After installing it, and updating it I have only 2 problems.
1) Turbo Boost driver from Asus.com does not work. I get the error "this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software". If anyone knows how to get around this to help me, that would be great.
2) The sound driver from the Asus website does not work with my Best Buy 05 model. Got some errors when installing. So im kinda having sound issues.
Other than that, everything seems perfect i'd really like to get this Turbo Boost figured out because I hate having buttons on the laptop that do not function. -

Ugh i really need the proper drivers for this thing.....
My touchpad is going crazy, my Turbo Boost button isnt working, and it sounds like my left side speaker is alot louder than my right side. -

wheres the turbo mode in the bios 206?
I've enabled the 'Turbo overclock' option or whatever its called (the 2 options are turbo and normal).
Still cant install the turbo driver from the cd or asus website.
Clean win7 install, with chipset and Ati 10.3 vid drivers...nothing else installed yet.
cheers
