Its been a really long time since I've posted but that's because my G1S hasn't been giving me any problems in a long time.

Recently, I've noticed that my fan has been running non-stop and that my laptop gets really quite hot to the touch. Whenever I try to play anything like Minecraft or League of Legends, it runs fine for a couple of minutes and then the performance just goes to and I get 3 frames per second if that...

I run a disk defragment every week, CCleaner on occassion. I probably need new graphics drivers but I don't think that would make too much of a difference... anyone have any advice?

I don't want to scare you, but I hope you are aware of the 8 series fiasco. Your best bet is to check the temps with a utility like GPU-Z and maybe replace the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU.

    Oh, sorry. :(

No there's no fix and those cards are a rare find (for a replacement).

The in-warranty G1S units got swapped with G1Sn units for a while, and when that stock depleted people got bumped to the G50 for warranty replacement units.

At this point the best you can hope for is that the card is not dying and that some thermal paste fixes the wild temps. Good luck!

Try opening the case over the fans and blow out the dust with some canned air. My old asus had built up a lot of dust over the years and it really reduced the temps.
    (It's a v1s with a 8600m still running strong)

Definitely a heat problem, mine does the same when overheats, works fine for about 4-5 minutes after I start the game, then it goes 3-4fps (best cases) for about 15 seconds, then goes normal. Before I made a GPU fan mod it was doing it constantly, then it got a bit better...however, one year later I had to buy an external cooler and it works fine...tho it behaves very strange lately...like it is about to go dead...yesturday I was playing LoL too...did an ultimate with Lux and it freezed right there while CPU/GPU was below 85c...it does more and more crashes every day :( Maybe a clean reinstall would fix it a bit, but I notice it is not in the same shape as when I got it

Simple words - get rid of the heat and it will live forever

does anyone know how much the service would cost from ASUS to get a new GPU installed...? I'm out of warantee and they aren't very helpful unless I send in my computer which I dont really want to do since I a student and need it...

For the G1S notebook, the GPU is soldered to the motherboard, hence you'll need to replace the entire motherboard if the GPU is defective. On a side note, Asus has extended the standard 2-year warranty for all notebooks with the 8xxx mobile GPUs for an extra 6 months, so I'd double check on your warranty status with Asus before forking out any $.

From your original post do you mean 92F and 88F to mean degrees fahrenheit or did you actually mean degrees celius. If fahrenheit your temps are not all hot.

Either way as David says you cannot change the GPU as it forms part of the motherboard.

I did mean Fahrenheit. However, speed fan was glitching and not showing the proper values. Appanrently, speed fan meant to tell me that was in C. so now my temps are reading 176F GPU and 165F CPU Cores... which is 81C and 75C approx.
