    Hello all,

Today, my age-old G1S gave me the black screen of death, a well-known problem usually attributed to the notebook's video card. However, I have already had this issue before, several years ago. At that time, I sent it in and had the video card (the 8600m GT) replaced with a new 9500m. Everything worked out for a long time, until today.

After having used the computer for a few hours, I shut it down and left the office, Upon return, I was greeted with the black screen issue. To sum up, I can hear the boot sounds all the way until the Windows sound, but can see nothing on screen. I find it odd that the issue has returned even after changing the dreaded video card - the presumed cause of the problem. Is it the motherboard that is to blame then?

Could be that the panel or inverter finally died - or possibly a bad video cable. But if the system suffered high temps or some negligence, then sure, it could be the board or card.

Have you tried an external monitor?

Yup, and no change. I have started taking it apart in hopes that something will change when I put it back together.

I loved my G1S! You can pull the motherboard and put it in the oven for 10 min at 390f. That should be enough to get the solder to reflow. If that works, it is really just a temp solution as it will do it again. The only perm fix is to send the motherboard out to be reballed.
