I'm talking about the 6 lights beneath the touchpad. The first one (from the left) is always on, but the 3rd one keeps "beeping" and making a strange noise while doing so. Is it broken? Anyone else experienced this?

Haven't heard the "beeping", but that's the hard drive activity indicator light... are you sure you aren't hearing the hard drive spin up or being read, it is located in the same area right under the touchpad above the lights? The stock 750GB drive is noticeably audible or noisy compared to drives I'm used to... I can tell immediately when it spools up and is being read, with a slight whine and slight "clicking" sound as the light flashes.

The first light is on when the machine is on, that is correct and normal.

EDIT: Just checked, when my HDD spins up it too makes a noise that could be described as "beeping"... I bet that's what you are hearing.

Hmmm ... every time the light flashes (every 1-2 sec) i hear a "hrrrrr", which disappears immediately when the light goes off. It's not a very loud sound. I guess that's the "reading the hdd sound"? I thought that there might be a prblem with the light bulb .... if that's even possible :) I'm a total noob when it comes to laptops.
