Got my new screen installed, plus my MSata 120 GB SSD and 1TB hybrid drive. I love this machine.

    BobbyColtrane,

What are your first impressions about the 900p screen when compared to the 768p screen?

Still really busy with work guys, I'm SO sorry I don't have time to give this display, and HIDEvolution the review they deserve. I'm only here today to get an issue resolved for my GPU :/

I have a walk-through still to do, and I would like to let everyone know that my replacement came flawless. No more Backlight bleeding, and certainly no dead pixels. GREAT display, highly recommend picking one of these up over the stock display.

Thanks everyone for your feedback here. Great to hear others have tried the same thing.

Its great. The extra resolution adds a lot. I also own a G55 and with the upgrades i made on this im going to sell it. The GPU/screen are better on it but the portability of the G46 puts it over the top.

It's almost a 40% increase in desktop real estate.

Well obviously you'll get more real estate, but your FPS will suffer a bit because your going from 768p to 900p. But to be honest I play on a 23'' 1080p monitor and my FPS is fine when I play on medium/normal to high settings. I honestly think the upgrade is well worth the money but it's all up to you. I honestly think the wifi card upgrade is good also, the Killer NIC.

ok, got my screen installed at least :)
broke couple of frame holding clips though =) but not a big deal, just be very careful when you try to remove screen frame, I'll done it with plastic card and had a bad result :)

As for new screen, it's really worth 100$, I don't carefully examined it for contrast or brightness difference but with first look it's better......nothing to say about resolution, a huge difference especially in games. I'm a casual wow player and I'm very pleased :)

No I am not sure but there are 3 models same name but .0, .1 and a .2 so one should be a 30 pin eDP port I hope.

I just upgraded to this screen from HIDevolution and have one question. I easily get LCD distortion in the top left corner (the type you get when you touch a LCD screen) if I touch anywhere on the plastic bezel of the screen.

For example, if I touch the bottom right of the plastic bezel (not the screen itself), the top left of the screen gets distorted a little as if I am touching the top left of the screen itself

Does anyone else have this or is it a defective screen?

Is the screen from HIDevolution a tn panel?

Any 900p IPS panels that work with this laptop?

I put in the AUO B140HAN01.1 14" Full HD 1920x1080 72% NTSC Matte eDP 30 Pin LCD. Works in my g46vw with the stock cable. I was going to put in the 1600x900 panel but the viewing angle, brightness, and color reproduction didnt look like much of an upgrade. The AUO B140HAN01.1 has pretty amazing viewing angles, okay brightness and okay colors. I sat the new screen next to a 15" auo B156HW01 matte screen that is pretty nice, and has good review everywhere and they looked pretty equal, except the 14" auo has just incredible viewing angles. I haven't tried any games but 14" 1920 screen for the g46vw is supposed to have some lag.

overall very nice... but... maxwell mobile is around the corner!!! maybe asus will make another 14" laptop that will accept this screen

Well they had a 760M version (motherboard and everything ready to go production) but scrapped it. The 860M does look perfect for 14" class machines so hopefully.

no problems with that screen, looks very nice. Putting it in wasn't too bad, the plastic clips were different that those on my last laptop. Once you have a little bit of separation you need to push the bezel towards the screen center a little to unlatch them. the clips are like a square C with one of these -- stuck in it on the left, and the right side its like this --- ] push the plastic frame towards the other side of the frame to unlatch and then outward is how i would describe it.

I was looking at this upgrade but am afraid of a few things.. The power consumption of the current display is pretty amazing. At full brightness you are looking around right around 2-3 watts. I idle around 10 watts from the wall and 6-7 while on battery; this makes for 6-8 hours runtime. Have any of you tested the draw of a 900p or 1080p screen?

The 1080p screen has better black levels and better picture quality but the 25ms response time is very bad. Went with the 900p screen.

    Hi G46VW users,

I have g46vw with core i7 and stock 1600x900 screen. It is probably the second edition with 40 pin edp connector.
I love this laptop for its computational power and for the best laptop keyboard I ever experience with.
However the screen quality is very bad even for text editting.
I am ok with 1600x900 resolution, but only with good natural colors.
Battery life is important for me, consuming 3 more watts will greatly decrease battery life.
Do we have any other replacement option rather than LCD panel with 25ms response time - 1080p B140HAN01-1?
    Thanks

25 ms is pretty average for a mobile display with ips.

    That does not say anything.
It only claim that I probably have 40 pins connector since my g46vw comes with stock 900p display.
Anyway I need to open the case to check connector before ordering B140HAN01.1 from hidevolution.

The question is if 40pins -> 30 pins convertor will work with B140HAN01.1 ?

I have the 1080P screen upgrade on mine, the G46 for me was worth every penny. Still using it as my main machine. I'm waiting on the GX500, (hopefully GX400 will be anounced) and the Aorus x3 +

Do you know if there is any difference between B140HAN01.1 and B140HAN01.2?

Is the 1.2 version newer or better than the previous one?

Not necessarily, version differences can denote things like glossy vs matt and newer revisions can be worse.

Several people were posting that they prefer the 1600x900 TN panel and that is fine.
But comparing it to the The AUO B140HAN01.1 14" Full HD 1920x1080 screen is comparing apples to oranges.
The 1920x1080 is AHVA, or IPS/PLS clone.

Is the 25ms 1080p screen a big issue for games? I'm going to say yes........25ms is really slow :/

I might have to go with the 8ms 900p screen.

you are pretty late to the party trying to game on a gtx 660m.
you wont be playing anything high detail, or at 1080p resolution.

Will you notice the difference in response time? Probably if the res is low enough, the graphics card is sufficient enough, and you know what to look for.
There are very noticeable differences vs a TN screen and an IPS clone.

If you only want to upgrade the stock low res panel to a new panel for only the reason of resolution, get the 900p upgrade.
If you want to get more contrast, better rgb coverage, and better viewing angles get the ahva 1080p.

    I wouldn't and didn't get the 900p TN panel.
    Here is the 900p TN panel I wouldn't get. AUO B140RTN03.0 Overview - Panelook.com

I would get TN panels, here is an older very nice 1080p TN panel I have. AUO B156HW01 V4 Overview - Panelook.com
this isn't for the asus 14"

I'm gonna disagree with you on the 660m. No game has really come out in recent memory that really pushes graphics, and the differences between the 600, 700, and 800 series isn't that great. A 660m is completely sufficient for today's games, as I am using it right now....

Depends on the games you are playing, mech warrior online for instance will munch on the gpu OR games like Crysis 3. The 860m is a lot more powerful than the 660m.

I bought the 1600x900 replacement for my 1366x768 screen and it is very good. The cost was $75 and the added real estate is very much worth it. I wouldn't want anything more than this resolution since the screen text would be too small to read comfortably.

Gaming performance is similar to the 1366x768 resolution too :)
