It was cute at first to have my name on it but now I've disabled Direct Console because I don't use Windows Mail, Windows Messenger, or any of those things. CPU Load is nice but I'd really like to take more advantage of this eye candy, it's one of the nicer things about the laptop.

I use AIM, wish it would work with that. I also use GMail not windows mail, wish it would work with that. What can you do though.

I'm very curious to what creative ways people are using the display though, I'm sure there's people more creative than I who have figured it out :)

    Thanks,
    Matt

I've already suggested this a couple of times, you might try to collaborate with Predator MF to get LCDHype working with G50. Or if you feel up to it, you can try it without his help. :)

    See the G1S OLED thread.

Thanks, I offered to provide any help to him that I can, but without any guidance I don't have a clue where to start :( He said maybe some time but right now he's too busy to try.

I am good with computers but don't have a clue when it comes to scripting or coding :(

Ahhh nice... at least someone's working on it. Unfortunately I'm using Vista, and although I do enjoy playing with Ubuntu, there are too many features still not supported by Linux for me to switch.

Thanks for pointing that out though, Google failed to show me that one

I already tried to work with him some, first thing he wanted was the res of the oled screen and I have no way to find out. My best idea was to take a macro photo with my camera while having as much text in there as possible but it still did not work out well.

Now that I know its a USB device and I know its vid & pid, if I can just figure out how to tie that into lcdhype I can probably start some guess work for resolution and all that. Once I have that going Predator can pretty easily take over.

You would think asus would want to release spec sheets for the OLED for their laptops to the public. Theirs nothing but benefit and usability that can come from it.

    Hey all

When I play Phantasy Star Universe on my G50 it affects the OLED - completely filling it so the whole thing is lit up.

I could try to take a macro pic if anyone is interested.

Just gotta be using a good setting, My macro shot had them bleed together, so use a ultra low sensitivty and fast shutter speed and it should work.

I love PSU, was just about to start playing 1 player again, I got banned online somehow I dont even know why as it happened while my account was not active. Sega sent me an email regarding my account saying nobody knows why I was banned and nobody that works there now was part of the team when it happened but there policy is all bans are for life so they wont lift it >< so even tho great game, horrible company.

I'll see how I go with taking pics tonight (Aussie time). I'll post if I manage to capture anything decent.

You may not have to count, the asusoled page ( http://lapsus.berlios.de/asus_oled.html) from the ubuntu link earlier says UPDATE: SVN version of Asus_OLED now supports also larger (256x32) OLED displays found in new G50 and G70 models - thanks to Costin Grigoras!

So it seems they are 256x32.

So point Predator to this thread, also somebody posted the pid&vid earlier in another thread, with that he should be able to get us into the same stuff as they have for the G1S OLED.

Hehe, got the message, looks like that guy Costin Grigoras did the harder work researching and reversing the G50's OLED (I would be happy to do it if I had the G50..), so it will be easier to update the G' driver for LCDHype. Thanks for that, standby for your driver a couple of days :)

Edit: Maybe you guys gonna buy me one G50 after that...lol ? :D

I just bought mine, and I cant tell you how much I appreciate everyone helping get more functionality out of this... One of the PERFECT uses for this screen for me would be to see who is talking on Vent or TS during gaming so I dont have to use crappy overlays. That and AIM would be greatly appreciated.

Id also like to donate some time to helping this cause, but I don't have any time in the immediate future, though early next week, id most likely have some time.

In any case, keep up the great work!

    People,

these threads are indexed by google very often. Do you want your email addresses, ICQ, AIM, etc to get indexed by google? If not, edit your posts and remove them.

    (I know I wouldn't want them indexed...)

OK, great, so while I'm trying to get the OLED driver working with G50 (it's almost done, we already have the G1 driver to recognize the G50 OLED and attach to it...), it would be great if couple of you guys do the rest of the job and port the Megascript for LCDHype to G50 OLED. That is, the Megascript "screens" are made for G1's OLED size - 128x32, they have to be ported to 256x32. Not that hard work, since the core of the Megascript will need no changes, just the screens that actually show some data.

Those of you willing to participate in this, download and install LCDHype 0.6 plus the 0.6.0.5 update, then download the Megascript 2.0 beta (down in my signature). They will work on any Laptop or PC with the "preview driver". You'll not get output to G50 yet, but you can work on the scripts with the preview window. Get familiar with LCDHype's language and the way of creating screens, then get familiar with the way the Megascript works. Also, read the G1S OLED thread, you'll find usefull information about how those screens work.

For more information and technical questions on the Megascript, contact me on PM, I'll be glad to help you.

It's nice to see that someone is working on the oled display. But what I am really interested in is whether I can turn off the blue leds that are located on the G50/G71 case/lid.
Is it correct that those leds turn on automatically when you turn on the system?
Is there a way to turn them off permanently?
Is there a way to turn them off once WindowsXP is started?
Is there a way to turn them off with Linux?

In Window XP, try with the Megascript 2.0 and the GLED plugin, I assume the blue LED in G50 is the same as the GLED in the G1, so practically it should be controlled the same way. To make this more simple, you can only try the GLED plugin with LCDHype and the test scripts I posted there.

Unfortunately not. The LEDs cannot be controlled by the G1 GLED plugin, it doesn't seem to be compatible with the new G series.

Hi. I've been working with my oled in windows and got it working quite nice. Currently making a spectrum visualizer for foobar2000 that displays on the oled :)
Both the leds and the oled where quite easy to get working, dunno how you other guys did, i use the dll's that came with directconsole to control them.

There's no problem running the OLED with the DLL's from DirectConsole, they export whole classes for control, but what I am trying to do is write my own driver with my own implementation inside, for best speed and flexibility is best to do it this way.

A noble quest, but is it really worth it, except for the fun of it? The dll's provide me with simple hdc-passing and sufficient speed to draw a sound spectrum. How is another driver going to make it better? (just curious)
