I installed my own copy of vista ultimate on my G50V and now I am having a problem with the webcam showing the image upside down. I did find another thread in the forum that said it needed drivers but I tried all 4 of the drivers listed and none of them worked.
When I bought the laptop for some reason I did not get a driver disk or system disk. I am going to fax my order to asus and they said I could get the disk from them but I was wondering is there a driver I need for a 64bit vista to fix the webcam problem? I did try to get best buy to give me the disks but they said I had to go through asus to get them.

I think under filters you can change the orientation all sorts of ways, reverse, upside down, black & white ect.
However thats with the webcam software not the driver for the webcam itself so if its upside down in a specific application your using it with you may not be able to do that. -
Yeah I didnt get any software for the webcam either.....
The only software I got was norton and webroot which is easily replaced but these drivers/software are driving me crazy and it will take asus weeks to get me any disks Im sure. I am going to fax all my nfo to them tomorrow and at least get the ball rolling.

asus.com go to downloads, and start downloading your software/drivers.

Under the vista 64bit OS section which driver would be for the webcam? Also Ive got ! in yellow for the network controller and two unknown devices.
Now I can't even get the bios updater to recognize my OS version and its saying I dont have the 64bit version which I know I do and it even shows I do under system properties. -
Bump....still having issues if anyone knows how to fix this.
-
Go to device manager and find out the hardware ID of the webcam first.
-
Would this be the hardware ID?
Location: 0000.001d.0007.005.000.000.000.000.000
I went to DM and right clicked the webcam and chose properties and thats what it came up with. -
Should be something like this: USB\VID_xxxxxxxxx
-
Hmmm I am not seeing a number like that. Am I looking im the right place?

go to the details tab under there, and give us your device instance id or the hardware ids

usb\vid_04F2&PID_B012&REV_0346&Mi_00
usb\vid_04F2&PID_B012&Mi_00
That should be them if I typed it right -
That's the Chicony_CNF7050_CNF6131 webcam:

Unzip it and use update driver from device manager. -
keeps telling me the best driver software for your device is already installed.
I did download something called asus virtual camera and it has settings for tilt and roll BUT all the options are greyed out for some reason and camfrog does not show any option for rotating the camera.
Wish there was a place I could just download a drivers disk image and then burn it to a dvd. I am trying to get asus to send me the driver and restore disks but so far no luck getting a hold of anybody. -
Bump still having issues, anyone else have an idea?
-
You can try uninstall the driver from device manager and reinstall the driver from the download link.
-
Well, I'm not a owner of G50V but I do not think it is different from others.
My F8Sn came with ASUS software that works with webcam. Upside down image is native for all lenses and there is nothing to do if driver doesn't have this feature that rotates image
P.S. My desktop has stand alone webcam (Rosewill from Newegg) and during driver installation driver has installed the icon into system tray that allows to tweak some basic features: rotation, contrast, brightness, face centering and so on -
Well my friend said when he first got the laptop the image was just fine, but since we re-installed vista ultimate and started updating all the devices and drivers and this is the last one that is really causing an issue.
I have downloaded asus virtual camera that does have the options for tilt and such but like I said they are greyed out so I cannot adjust the image with it.
And without the drivers disk and system restore I have to rely for online drivers and such. -
Old driver was fine. Find out it. It can be stored on ASUS drivers/utilities disk
-
Thats if I had the drivers/utilities disk. I only received Norton and Webroot with the laptop and Best Buy said I had to get the disks from asus which I cannot get in contact with Tech Support because they never answer their online chat and when I sent an email they sent one back saying something about RMA'ing the laptop....just to get some disks?? lol
-
Check ASUS website for downloads.
They have utilities software - besides of virtual camera 2 more programs - Lifeframe is probably that one you need -
Hmmm ok I guess I did not see the lifeframe one. I have downloaded the virtual cam 2 with no luck but I will look for the other one now.
Will post results. -
But both lifeframe and virtual camera are not drivers, lifeframe allow you to take picture and virtual camera lets you use multiple IM programs with camera.

I just bought an N50 and have the same issue, Gmail VideoChat is upside down, as is any other Windows or Linux webcam enabled program. It's just pathetic that this is still an issue, and Asus provide no fix! -
-
I have the same problem with an N50v.
I resolved it by editing the snp2uvc.inf file.
Open it with notepad and search for the word "flip".
You'll see entries like this...
"HKR,DefaultSettings,Flip,0x00010001,0 - and - HKR,Settings,Flip,0x00010001,0".
Change the last digit (zero) to a "1" to all instances.
Save the file and re-install your drivers manually from Device Manager.
Choose the driver to install, do not let Windows search for you.
Reboot and your video will be in the correct orientation. -
THX for help It was very good advice.

I tried editing of the INF file and it worked !! Thanks a lot!

Hi your solution worked best for me, I have G50VT dual boot vista x64 with windows 7 x64 ultimate. I installed win 7 x64 this morning then I followed the guides and installed all the Asus stuff (did not bother with the INF update) then after all the effort taking hours of my life, I found the camera was inverted, and to add insult to injury, the drivers off the asus website would not directly install in windows 7. Then I tried to update by using the device manager and it was still inverted. Then I unhid the file extensions, edited the 2 entries of the snp2uvc.inf as you described et voila! the camera is no longer inverted and I can now do the smart logon with my picture hee hee. Thanks so much.
ps I registered just so I can thank you. And this forum is the best source of Asus g50vt troubleshooting tips -
I also have a G50V and an upside down webcam. My computer crashed and a friend helped me recover it with the recovery disk it came with. I had saved all the drivers I needed to a flash drive to get everything working again. I had Lifeframe on my computer before the crash, but it's no where to be found on here now. Logged into YIM to chat with a friend and realized that the cam was upside down. The driver I got off of the ASUS site made my computer crash again.
What do I do now? How can I fix this and get Lifeframe back? I'm terrible with computers...please help me!

download this driver (vista 64bit) http://goo.gl/smxw0
follow these steps to update:
1. in device manager, find your camera
2. right click, update driver software
3. select Browse my computer for driver software
4. select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
5. select Have disk
6. browse to the folder where you extracted downloaded file and select .inf file (should only be one) then hit ok
7. let it install, now test the camera
hope this helps, pm if you need assistance in figuring this out. -
