the 9800 GS on the G50Vt has the vbios on its own chip, youll have to use nvflash to extract it and reflash it.

as for the pll clock generator, youre most likely using the wrong chip id. before i couldnt get it very high (2.8 was max from 2.5, t9400), now i can easily achieve a 3.2 stable, 3.05 to keep the gpu below 90C. forget which one it was, but it was somewhere in the G50V threads.

i've found the stock clocks for the Vt:
    530/1325/800

Also have figured out how to flash the video BIOS. pretty painless compared to the G50Vm. Stress testing the core clock, I can't seem to get anywhere past 550Mhz without crashing.

volt mods are dangerous, especially in laptops. an increase in clocks is linear with temp, voltage is almost quartic.

If anyone finds an ideal SAFE overclock for the this chip via a vBIOS flash, I'd love a little tutorial. I'm a little stupid on GPU overclocking these days, haven't kept up with it since the days I was tuning my Radeon 9600 Pro AGP.

9800m GS and 9800mGTS are the same card!
    9800m GS 530,1325,799 clocks on 1.05V
    9800m GTS 600,1500,800 clocks on 1.11V
just change volt and clocks in NIBITOR and your hapy ouner on 9800m GTS it's so easy ;)

Is it possible to overvolt the CPU on this laptop, and furthermore, if I were to get this laptop, and upgrade to an extreme mobile CPU, can I adjust the multipliers &voltage with RMclock to yield better results? Anybody tried this?

So Tavara, you used PLL ics9lpr604aglf on SetFSB, and adjusted the FSB; did you need to overvolt the CPU to achieve a stable 2.9GHZ?

So effectively, if I can change the voltage and clocks to match the GS to the GTS, is there a way to change the actual name of the card to GTS? like the device information and whatnot? probably a longshot but worth asking.

bumped voltage to 1.11V and clocks to 600/1500/800 the card runs great after an hour of stability testing and running WoW. This would now be considered a GTS.

    I'm happy.

actually after playing wow some more with the 600/1500/800 and 1.11V, I noticed that a little white box about 1in (think TV snow screen) for a split second and happens continuously at random. also tested with just the voltage on and the stock clocks and happens at that setting too. I dunno if the card likes being at that voltage..

    otherwise it's very stable

If anyone can help, I can't get past making a bootable usb drive. Every single utility I try either claims it's write protected (which I know it isn't) or simply won't let me select to make it bootable. This is frustrating!

Try using a different flash drive? Or make a bootable DOS CD. The HP tool was great for making my USB drive bootable, so I know it works right.

As for the clocks, I've found that my card does not like the core clock at anything higher than 570, as I start to get artifacts and tearing in games. The clocks I have my card set to now is 570/1500/800.

I've tested the memory clock at 850 and that seems okay, as does 900. Can I damage the memory if it's that high, or what? I want to keep it there but I'm afraid I'm doing more harm to the system if I leave it there.

4 fps can be a lot...if you go from 21 to 25 fps in Crysis, the game suddenly becomes quite playable.

just played r6 for a couple of hours and no artifacts or overheating, she is running fine at GTS speeds.

havent done benchies in game but the 3dmark scores seem pretty good. and kicking the shader and core up by 10% would surely mean a 10% kick up in games

1 BSOD when exiting Left 4 Dead, but I'm not 100% sure that was the OC's fault. It certainly wasn't very hot, so I dunno.
