I was wondering if anyone could lend a hand, I'm not positive but I think my GPU is overheating. It's a recent occurrence, I've had this computer since 2009 and haven't had any issues.

I'm currently in Iraq and I haven't been using it to game much mostly just watching movies, etc. But I fired up Stalker: Shadows of Chernobyl and was getting normal frame rates but it would slow down after about 15 minutes for roughly 10-20 seconds and then do that every 5 or so minutes until I stopped playing, I thought it was a glitch or virus but I tried it in Far Cry 2 and same result.

I looked into the possibility that the CPU was overheating but that didn't seem to be the case, it was well within tolerances. Then I read a post on this forum:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/548741-gpu-overheating-g50vm-x1.html

I got the idea that it might be the GPU and installed GPU-Z and my idle temp is between 72-75 Celsius. In game it rises to 101-105 Celsius.

Thoughts on how to fix this or if someone thinks its not the temperature?

K, I did that I couldn't see anything but I used some canned air and a bunch of dust came out so that might have been it. Before that though I noticed a slight smell of burnt plastic coming from the vents.

If you are well out of your warranty period and feel comfortable enough I would remove the access panel and take the fan completely out. This was the only way I could get all the dust out. I had to remove the fan from the fan shroud and separate it from the heatsink before I could successfully remove all of the dust.

Well I just played Far Cry 2 for about two hours with no issues, the temp maxed out at 80 C and is idling around 55 C, so I think that fixed it for now. Thanks for the assistance.
