I recently purchased an Asus G50v x-1 and was wondering what would be the better option for a cpu upgrade, t9600, t9900 or x9100? Any advice would be greatly appreciated especially concerning over heating issues, the warranty on the machine is long gone as it was purchased used so I'm not concerned with voiding anything.

T9800 would be cheaper and more common than the T9900 at this point, and it matches the X9100's spec so unless your gonna be able to and want to use the unlocked multiplier the T9800 is actually the cheapest but best solution.

The T9600 does the job for me and usually pushing well past 3 ghz makes the rest not matter for me. Since you can't run a quad if your going for all out speed you know what todo if not the T9900, T9800, T9600 would be my list in order of expense. The X9100 requires a software based solution on the G50 to adjust the multiplier and it runs hotter so it doesn't make my list.

thanks for the great advice, I was on the fence about purchasing the x9100 or t9900 but it looks like I'll be going for the t9600 based on your comments. May I ask what software if any your using for overclocking or are you using the bios?

X9100 = ThrottleStop, search on this forum for it.
T9900 = SetFSB, if your PLL is supported, search same as above.
Another option is ASUS Power 4Gear eXtreme, maybe doesn't work with both processors.

The post above this basically says it all. I would still take a T9800 over the T9600 if i was shopping but being on the T9600 its not worth upgrading.

Bios doesnt allow for overclocking. SetFSB for the bus on the T series. As said above throttlestop can change the multiplier in windows to overclock the X9100 without overclocking the bus.

Eitherway it was a huge improvement over the P7450 in terms of gaming but it still lacks in some area's where a QX9300 would have been nice but not possible.
