I picked up a broken g50v in excellent condition except for 1 thing...

When I plug in the power adapter, the light goes out.

There is a short somewhere in the power circuitry, I will eventually find it... Has anyone repaired one of these before and has an idea on where to start?

EDIT: If I decide not to fix it, what is the best mobo that will fit in the chassis and use the same vid card?

    Hello whitrzac,
I just had the same problem last month. My g71 power adapter light would be bright when plugged in but not attached to the laptop. The light on the adapter would go dim then out when I connected it to the laptop. I searched the internet and one guy said he narrowed the problem to the motherboard.

I broke out the trusted multimeter and began resistance and power checks on the laptop power circuits and power adapter. It indeed was the motherboard.

A replacement motherboard was almost 30% of the current laptop value. And this was only cost for parts. Who knows how much labor would be. I decided to to replace the laptop.

I'm not very happy with ASUS. I rarely (perhaps only 100 hrs of gaming total) used the laptop. I had read bad reviews of ASUS on other websites but never experienced the problems. I can now say I am the sad owner of a dead ASUS laptop. :(
