    Hi guys-

    I'm stuck here-

I had to replace the fan on my g50v because the bearings were worn out. In order to get to the fan though, you need to remove the heatsink for the NB and CPU. I've done that, and also obviously re-pasted both with AS5. The NB had a thermal pad on it, which i dont have one to replace with, but as mentioned on other threads here, there has been success bending the copper down a tad for the NB heatsink and just using paste.

With everything rebuilt, the laptop now won't power up properly. The hard drives and dvd spin up, but the fan itself never spins up (can't remember if it did or not at POST before). The screen stays black, not even a flicker. After about 3 seconds or so it clicks itself off.

I've since re-reseated everything twice, re-seated the RAM just in case, and the CPU, and I'm out of options on how to proceed.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

    Cody

Taking off the heatsinks shouldn't really affect anything else since you don't need to rip the machine apart to get at it. My first guess would be an improperly seated CPU or GPU, but it sounds like you've already checked those. You've probably checked the fan cable, if it isn't spinning up you might want to try plugging in your old fan, just for giggles, to see if it spins. The G50 fan does spin up as soon as the system is turned on. Your RAM probably isn't to blame but you could try one stick at a time. It could be a short somewhere but you shouldn't have had to touch anything else to repaste, you could check the wireless card since it's the only other card that could short.

There's always a chance you damaged something tightening the heatsink too much, but I would really hope that's not the case.
