i bought a Asus gtx260m for my G50vt. However once i installed it, i couldnt get the CPU fan/heatsinc to fit back inside because aparently my new GPU is from a G70 series laptop, which is shaped diffently from the Earlier 260m's.

Is there a way i can still use this card by perhaps getting a smaller fan. The fan/card is only 1.5 centimeters to wide. if i could just get a Fan that was slightly smaller i wouldnt have a problem with it.

    heres a pic.

    I thought a 260M GTX didn't work in a G50? Only a G51. I maybe wrong.

Is that definetely an Asus card? Does it say Asus on it? I suppose your only option is to either mod the fan or get a different fan.

As long as the fan covers the heatsink and you connect all the wires up so that it runs properly and at the same speed it should not be a problem, but getting a fan to fit across the entire heatsink with the controllers sticking out like that is going to be tricky.

Im thinking maybe i can just take the fan off of what i got already leaving the heatsync.

And i think its possible with a G50, im pretty sure i read about people installing the gtx260m on a G50vt-x5 so i imagine it would be possible on an x1.

Edit: and yes it is an Asus card, it says so on it.

Hmm slightly confused what you said there you cannot remove the fan and leave the heatsink as soon as you apply load on it the GPU will burn up. The fan is only part of the cover around it and its made that way so that the airflow covers the entire radiator to remove the heat from the laptop, if a section of the radiator is not covered then your cooling wont be as efficient.

Take a look at the thread of those who have done it ^^ Im sure it will mention what to do or what fan to use.

I too, was told that the GTX260 from a g70 series wouldn't work.

I would try to do a quick boot and see if you get any video ay all before making any modifications.

I would of course only suggest a quick 10 second boot or so as to not fry your video and cpu.
