    Hello everyone

I've had a problem with my G51Vx power supply.
My laptop couldn't light on when plugged to the AC adaptor (with or without a battery).
At first I though it was the AC adaptor itself so I changed it (not the first time it happened in 3 years).
When I tried with the new, nothing better happened. I disassembled it and took it to a repair shop where they changed the power Jack

Now, the first AC adaptor still doesn't works but the new one is... But... Only when I plug in then out the battery.

    To say it short.

Battery alone : No power on
Battery + ac adaptor : No power on
Ac adaptor alone : No power on

Battery in then out with ac adapton plugged : Power on...

I've been searching many hours on gooel and still can't find a solution.... Have you already seen something like this?

What is the charge on your battery?

Does your battery charge when plugged in? What are the LEDs on the front of your laptop like?

How worn out is your battery?

The charge is hard to define because :
1 - When I plug the battery during the boot process, the system tells me the battery is defective or missing (on the battery widget on the desktop)
2 - When I plug the battery after the complete boot (when I'm on windows) the PC shuts down

When the battery is plugged (case 1) the battery led is blinking orange. The battery doesn't seems to charge.

The battery is the one that was bundled with the laptop. 3 years and it was allways plugged (I know it's not good but the computer was hard to maintain lifted up for cooling process whith the hole instead of the battery)

In the case 1 (battery plugged during boot) power4gear activates the profile "on battery" whereas the AC adaptor is plugged and working.

It may be that your battery is dead and/or broken. This doesn't explain why your laptop won't start up on AC power though. That sounds like a mobo issue. With a new battery, you can test the battery connection to the laptop and make sure it is at least charging.

    What do you think?

    Good suggestion!

I try to think not to spend money on things "useless", but maybe the best choice is to pay 60€ for a new battery and if the problem is still here then change the motherboard. Anyways, the new battery will still be much more usefull than the old one!

I also blamed the CMOS battery but tested it and it is still good and I'm not loosing my bios setup (or system clock).

I hate to say it, but a broken ac jack or broken ac jack-mobo connection could explain why the laptop won't turn on with only ac power?

    I don't know...
For me it's like the fact to plug/unplug the battery was giving a "charge" that wake up the pc...
