Hi, i just installed a crucial m550 and periodically, and slightly randomly, it will Blue screen,

As a side point in the other hard drive slot i have a standard hard drive in it with windows installed, and it doesn't blue screen.

I tried looking up the hows and whys that i keep blue screening, and i think i read something about the controller not playing nice with the g51, but i didn't quite understand if there was a solution or, if i'm screwed, or whatnot.

anyway here is the error report that comes up after reboot

No idea what any of that means, but i'm sure someone who does could help me out.

    Download and install whocrashed http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed
Next time you get a BSOD check the file and it will tell you what caused it. Many time it will even pull up what caused the previous ones.

Did you use the recovery software to restore the OS? Or you reloaded it fresh?
How about firmware update for the SSD?

i downloaded and installed whocrashed, though of course, the computer hasn't bsod since, i think the ssd knows its on probation.

Also to answer kevin, i used a generic windows 7 disc on account that the asus windows 7 wouldn't install on the ssd, some weird errors came up, and i got tired of dealing with it.

Then i used the recovery disc divers, and used that, and that was another bag of giggles that i don't wanna get in to.

And as far as updating the firmware drivers on the ssd, i'm still trying to do that, i thought id be clever but i guess i don't know how to make the computer boot from usb. It just seems like such a waste to use a cd...

Alright, so the key was usb legacy mode. Never woulda thought enabling that would make a computer boot from usb.
And though it hasn't crashed since, I ran whocrashed and it dropped knowledge on me about my wifi driver requesting weird irq's. Didn't think it was my wifi driver's fault, but may ad well check my other hard drive and see what that os is running.
Turned out they were different versions. So I did a lil update, ran my laptop idle for about 5 hours and no probs.

Sooo I guess we can count this as a win for the users?

For SSD firmware update, you can do it with another PC but seems like you've used alternate method with Windows 7 so it is good that you were able to resolve it.
For Win7, it can only run under Legacy or CSM mode, but not UEFI since it's not a true UEFI OS.

USB legacy mode is for say booting into a windows 98 boot environment to make firmware changes.

Windows 7 should work in UEFI mode, it does not have support for secure boot for instance but should still work.

It all depends on how you have installed windows 7, if you did it legacy mode then you would need CSM, if you run the installation media under UEFI and installed it that way you should be fine without it.

You can't install Win7 under UEFI mode, the OS install will hang at animated logo without going further.

I did not realise that this machine had a specific issue with it.

You could replicate it on any machine, simply enable UEFI, and try to load Win7 boot disc/usb.

The OS hung on my ASUS/MSI motherboard and notebook, and the OS is vanilla, unmodified.

You may want to check the install you are using, microsoft had some funny issues with certain ISO files not working with UEFI.
