I've had a G51jx-x3 for a few years now and while it still runs good all of a sudden the battery no longer charges. Battery run-time was around an hour and then it suddenly stopped charging. Within Windows it detects that the battery is present and is reporting it being charged but on the front of the laptop the battery light just flashes. I've tried re-seating the battery and letting it charge overnight with the laptop off but no dice. My question is around which hardware component is having the problem? I've heard issues of previous Asus models having issues involving the DC jack but I'm uncertain if the symptoms match this issue, there is some slop in the connector but when adjusting it to one side or another doesn't seem to have an effect on actual charging. I've checked the power brick and there are no signs of damage along the cord or the adapter itself.

Hardware changes from the stock configuration
    1) ram upgrade to 8GB
    2) hard drive replaced with an SSD
    3) Replaced stock Intel 1000 series wireless with Intel 6200 series
    3) CPU replaced with an I5-520m
The first two were done over a year ago and the CPU upgrade was done about 6 months ago.

Your system is getting power so the DC jack is not the root cause.
Battery doesn't last forever and its life expectancy is 500 cycles and since you have used it for a few years so it must had exceeded 500 cycles for sure.

If it went suddenly then the internal mechanism may have detected an internal fault and disabled the charging, thanks for letting us know what it was :)
