Hello, I Have a G51JX-A1 thats ironically just over 2 years old now... and I downloaded the seagate disc utility as it would see as thought my hard drive is begining to develope some issues. I am not sure if these are correctable?
Wondering if I can get some input, or if I'll need to spend 70$ to replace it

    st9500420AS
    Momentum 7200rpm Sata2 2.5" 500GB 16MB Cache

    Reallocated Sector Count 00000019
    Current Pending Sector Count 00000021
    Uncorrectable Sector Count 00000021

I happen to have one of the games I play stored somewhere within this sector because if I go to a certain spot on my map, my laptop basically goes into limp mode and hangs.... I tried to Scan Disc and fix bad sectors and it will hang in exatly the same way...

    Help?

Download and burn hirens boot cd
    ( http://www.hirensbootcd.org/files/Hirens.BootCD.15.2.zip)

Start your computer with the cd in the drive, either select the boot menu or go into the bios to make the cd drive the first boot priority.

    Start the disc
    Select Dos Programs
    Select Hard Disk Tools
Select 4. Hard Disk Sentinel 1.00.5 (health and temperature info)

Check how many bad sectors are on your disc, check the estimated health percentage of the hard drive.

At the prompt press "m" then enter
Select main menu (bottom right corner of box)
    Select Dos Programs
    Select Hard Disk Tools
Select 1. HDAT2 4.1B1 (Test and Repair Bad Sectors)
    Select your hard disk

    Wait till the program completes.

This is all you can do to fix your hard drive, if you can't fix it this way then it's time to replace the drive.

does this program see logical partitions or only physical drives?
    C: System
D: Data - is the issue

I have a feeling its going to do what chdsk does and hang when it gets to the issue sector... how long should this take on a 300gb partition thats only 30% used.

It looks at the drive as a whole and fixes errors by moving data to healthy sectors. I've used this tool a million times and it's never hung up on me. It will beep when it finds a bad or weak sector and show red when it is scanning or has scanned a bad sector.

    Just try it.

Power On: 255 days, 7 hours
    Health: 40%
25 Bad Sectors on disk surface
33 Bad Sectors during self test
33 weak sectors found on disc surface

HDAT2 wont run.. it says there is an error, no DPMI

yeah at 40 % is pretty terrible, if hdat won't run you can try spinrite. It will take forever but it will fix your data so backup is possible.

it wont run because it says its missing something.... according to what i've googled HDAT2 15.2 doesn't work for a DDR3 system... the program asks me to download DPMI*e.zip which is a rootkit...
