I have been thinking of buying one of these two systems since I returned the G73JH.

    G51JX has following specs:

    Includes: Gaming mouse and backpack
    DISPLAY: 15.6" FullHD (1920 x 1080) LED backlight
    CPU: Intel Core i5 450M 2.4 GHz
    RAM: 4 GB DDR3
    HDD: 500 GB
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M
    AUDIO: Creative
    OPTICAL DRIVE: Blu-Ray/DVD Combo
    NETWORKING: 10/100/1000 Mbps
    WLAN: 802.11 b/g/n
    FireWire: 1
    USB: 4
    WEBCAM: 2Mpix
    Bluetooth: v2.1 + EDR
    BATTERY: 6-cell

    And the GX740:

    DISPLAY: 17.3" 1680x1050
    CPU: Intel Core i5 450M 2.4 GHz
    RAM: 4 GB DDR3
    HDD: 500 GB
    GPU: ATI RADEON 5870 1GB GDDR5
    AUDIO: REALTEK HD Audio
    OPTICAL DRIVE: CD/DVD Combo
    NETWORKING: 10/100/1000 Mbps
    WLAN: 802.11 b/g/n
    FireWire: 1
    USB: 4
    WEBCAM: 2Mpix
    Bluetooth: v2.1 + EDR
    BATTERY: 9-cell

Both cost the same, so that's not a issue. How's the build quality with these laptops? What about display and color vibrancy? Any known issues like overheating or keyboard flex? Which one would you recommend?

I will add that the GX740 screen is the most awful/crap screen out there. Not worth your money. I sold mine ...(yes, the screen was that bad).

Picture a 10 year old monitor. Now picture gaming on that 10 year old monitor.

Would 360m handle Dragon Age an Mass Effect 2 at 60fps at 1080p with maxed settings (no AA)?

EDIT: I will not touch G73JH even if it meant the death of me. Way too many problems and crappy build quality. And the GX660R isn't available here.

You can import it from the US (the GX660R) from GenTechPC, since they ship worldwide :p

As for the 360m, check benchmark websites to give you an idea on what it can and cannot handle.

Also, the G73JW is out, which seems the problems from the JH did not carry over since radical internal restructuring and pasting. Another option is also the one in my sig for 1499$ too.

If you intend to game on it id get the GX740 without a second thought.
The mob. 5870 is much better than the gtx 450m, and the 1680x1050 resolution is at least in my oppinion the best one for 17" screens, and it will give you some additional FPS gaming at native resolution.

The g51jx IMHO has really, REALLY bad thermal design. With the core I5-I7 processors, you'll get throttling a lot while gaming, which won't affect the game (it's still plenty fast) but will affect anything else that you were doing while gaming.

Really? I haven't heard of this issue before anywhere.
