possible, but unlikely. it's specific to this model.
no BSODs on XP is correct (as my 7th post in the original thread states).
-
-
It's not a Windows 7 problem or it would be happening on other systems. Windows 7 probably just uses the hardware in a way XP doesn't/cant'.
-
Today I had 5 BSOD in 1 match of cod4 multi .......
I have tried everything: Firefox in background, Crysis in background, lower resolution, lower brightness...everything.............
I was very disappointed of this notebook... -
As with the CPU throttling issue, call this in and if we pester them enough, as happened with the J, there will be a fix for the issue made for us:
The ASUS Notebook Support line is 24/7 - if you are in North America the # is 1-888-678-3688 hit 2 and then 3.
For other regions see here: http://support.asus.com/contact/contact_right.aspx
Peter -
Can we just move the BSOD discussion on the G51Jx to the Pre-order thread? Moderators should remove the "Pre-order" title and rename it something appropriate.
-
After playing couple hours of COD: MW2 i got the BSoD.
Looks like Asus G51JX has the same issue like Asus G51J.
Any news how to fix it folks? -
The best way to try to fix it for now though is as I said 2 posts above:
-
I already request Asus to investigate the BSOD issue, since they already fixed G51J BSOD so it should be as easy as a BIOS update.
-
thank you very much for requesting Asus to investigate the BSOD issue GenTechPC
-
@GenTech: will they investigate the throttling as well?
XP is unaffected in case you want to set up a dualboot for the problematic games. -
Anyone know if the i5 version has the same BSODs? ASUS G51JX-X3
-

I was getting the BSOD errors as well in Lineage 2. After about a 1 to 2 hours of play, the laptop would get extremely hot.
Since then I've bought the Zalman NC-2000 laptop cooler and have upgraded the video card driver at;
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/26179-v18871-windows-7vista-64bit-asus-mobile/
I haven't experienced a BSOD since then and the temps have been stable at full load at about 65 degrees C. I have a feeling it was the video card drivers that made it more stable though.
I'm curious to see if anyone else can try this and see if updating the VC drivers have helped. -
The cooler can't be a bad idea, I might get one someday, but I'd only get silent ones as I would hate to add more noise than the internal fan.
About the drivers, your sig says G51Jx-A1 - did you actually install those drivers you linked to on that system?
Thanks,
Peter -
Hey guys.... hate to post this news but wanted to let you know that I got my G51JX on Thursday and I have had a total of 4 BSODs... They all occured while playing COD4 at different times.... Looks like I'm in the same boat as several others... the BCCode was 124 so it is the the same as the "J" model....
Gonna talk to Justin at Xotic to see what my options are..... -
@inspire, is the link you provided which leads to the NVIDIA driver newer than the factory installed drivers?
@CCzCataphract, maybe you can give inspire's idea a go. Does the latest DOX driver not work? -
As mentioned in the G51Jx thread and in my review (I know they're both long) I have tried all the latest DOX drivers (There have not been any new ones since January 22nd, 2 weeks before I got my G51Jx) along with a couple of older ones that thalanix linked to. The only driver that has actually installed and worked has been the ASUS 187.66 drivers - so that's why if he found some way to actually install those other ones, that would be great to know and I'd be the first to test and confirm it.
nVidia reported two weeks back that they expect to release the first official beta drivers for GTS360M by early February - so it could be any time now...
Peter -
I just got the G51Jx-A1 on Friday, I get the 0x124 blue screen after about 15-20 minutes in World of Warcraft, haven't installed or tried any others yet. Seems to get REALLY hot when sitting around in town in WoW.
-
i don't recall anyone having trouble with WoW on the G51J. heat out the side means less heat on the card, but i'd check temps anyways. check that the first parameter in the bugcheck code (in eventvwr) is 0x04 (PCI-E), and i'll be convinced.
driver-wise, it's been very quiet on nvidia's end since last month. maybe they have something big cooking... like fixing the stuttering with flash acceleration... -
Yeah I think I'm the only person here who admittedly plays wow on my G51J....and nope haven't had a BSOD as of yet. A few lock ups of the game but nothing too bad like a BSOD. But I think that has more to do with the Creative crap that was still there after uninstalling it...got rid of the rest of it with driver sweeper and haven't had a problem since.
-
-
Why is the throttling thread for the G51J/Jx named SOLVED/WORKAROUND on the title? What's the solution?
-
That thread is strictly for the G51J bsod issues.
Oops thought you were referring to the bsod thread. -
. thanks for the inquiry regardless.

Wow, didn't expect a reply so quickly from ASUS. Doesn't really help, but it's a start towards getting it fixed/replaced..

@GenTech: has Asus updated to you about the BSOD issue??
-
Any news on the M60J as well?... I've been waiting soo dreadfully long for any sign of response.
-
They can fixed 260M so they can fix 360M easy.

Hi Guys,
It's been awhile since we last posted, we made some changes to the team and just to let you guys know, we are still here.
We are gathering feedback on this case right now and as soon as our HQ provides a BIOS update, we will provide it right away.
If you guys have any details you would like to share regarding the issue that isn't posted here yet, please go pm the info to us.
As always we appreciate the support and the feedback. -
having a problem with my G51Jx. Only game I've installed and played so far has been Heroes of Newerth. I'll randomly get purple hexagram shaped corruption across the screen and then it'll BSoD and start to memory dump. I can't read the BSoD because the screen corruption duplicates the screen about 12 times.
Then it would start to show the same symptoms of corruption right when I would log into windows. I loaded into safe mode, removed the nvidia driver and re-installed with the latest drivers from the Asus website. Bios version is the lastest 204. -
Asus CC is back from his winter break
-
well it's been running fine for the last couple of hours or so, though that's just been normal IRC/Firefox/Winamp stuff
-
Hi, guys.
I am having the Blue Screen Of Death problem, so I thought it would be better to talk about here.
Looks like You guys did't find the solution yet, but anyways would like to ask.
I have ASUS G51JX-A1, and I'm having the BSOD with the
"STOP: 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000004, 0xFFFFFA8005D89038, 0x0000000000000000. 0x0000000000000000)
It happens when I play COD: Modern Warfare 2. For some reason [for those who played the game], I think that it occurs only when I play with the sniper rifle (with the scope), or anything with ACOG (another type of the scope) [also with the Red Dot Sight).
And if there is any news about the solution, please let me know, because I'm thinking of returning it to ASUS if possible.
{and yeah, I called to Computer Sonics, and they told me that they can fix it, but I don't really think they can. I live a little bit far from it, so I can't easily go there}
And does "reverting to the old drivers" help??? <-------
Thanks.
{When I bought the laptop, the BSOD occured maybe once/3 days. But now, it is once/2-3 hours of playing} -
See about 3 posts above, ASUS CC is working on a BIOS fix - call in your issue or pm them to let them know you're having this issue but I'd wait a few days for them to do a BIOS update before taking it anywhere - a BIOS update is also how this same issue was fixed on the G51J.
You can also check the wiki for more info on all the tons of tests people have run on this. As a temp workaround, you can try leaving Firefox on and with many windows open in the background, it helped some people.
Hope that helps,
Peter -
a few days can be a couple months (like it was for us), so don't hold your breath. M60J users are going almost 5 months with this.

It appears we need some more volunteers to send in their minidump files. Please pm me if you are interested so I can provide the email address. Thanks!
-
There is no send pm function or I'd send you mine.
-
upload it to a filesharing site or get to 5 (maybe 10) posts (not sure if it applies to attachments as well).
-
welp
laptop chunked again, get the graphical corruption every time I try to log into windows. last time I did this I uninstalled the nVidia drivers and reinstalled them and that fixed the issue for a little while but this is rather frustrating. GPU temps never went above 83C, so its not an overheating issue.
minidump is as follows:

I get the same error, it seems to occur for me when I'm doing a few processor intensive things AND burning DVDs.
-
How do I get a minidump file? I'll send mine in.
-
well guys, any solutions for BSoD?
I got one while playing Crysis, but I think because I maxed out the setting just for test. And got another when I was running Left 4 Dead in the background. -
Wait patiently for ASUS to solve the problem with a BIOS update. I'm quite surprised and happy that they acknowledged the issue and promised to fix it!
