Since they kinda borked the second real HD bay in the G51Jx with extra DIMM slots, I was trying to find a solution to put a second HD in without sacrificing storage space since this acts as my main PC for the time being.

Has anyone tried using something like: NEW SATA 2nd HDD caddy for 12.7mm Universal CD/DVD-ROM? I was going to put a standard mechanical HD in that, and have the SSD as my OS/application main drive.

Curious if anyone has had any problems or has any knowledge on how well this would work.

That a good question. I would like to have one of those to replace my bluray drive in my G73JH

You should have no problems getting that to work. You'll just take out the ODD, put that in, then take the bezel off the ODD and put it on there to keep the same look.

I already bit the bullet and ordered it earlier this morning since there was a distinct lack of responses, lol.

I ended up getting the Crucial M4 256 GB to put my OS and most of my applications/few games/Steam on. The 7200 512 GB mechanical HD will be going in the bay for the additional storage.

I did find out that if you remove the DVD-ROM drive and attempt to start Windows, it has a BSOD seizure. Fun fun.

I've had mine for a while and it works just fine. You will have to remove your existing ODD bezel to place on the caddy, which can be a little tricky. Also, the nice part is that the HDD caddy(at least for the G73) will accept the larger 12mm HDDs, so you can put a 1TB HDD in there if you want to. Pretty nice bonus if you ask me.
